This was our second trip to the Viva Wyndam Fortuna Beach. One of the best draws of this resort is the entertainment team. We have school age kids - one in middle school, and the staff actively engages them in activities (so they can't get "bored"). This trip we had the most fun with the trapeze team. Blake, Luis and Mika recognized that our daughter had some natural talent and took the time to teach her more advanced tricks on the trapeze. They even invited her to participate in catching with Blake. They created amazing lasting memories for her. The sailing team was fantastic - came out to get us when we needed help getting back with our kayaks. The pool team is great too - Amy Army, Mary, Flor and the rest of the gals are SO MUCH FUN! We will definitely be back and hope to see some of the amazing entertainment team!
Freeport Bahamas - Viva Wyndham Resort 3.5 star. / Fen 18-25, 2023 We travelled here as a group of 50 leaving from the Montreal Airport, Very early in the morning lol… Thankfully we all pre-booked our spots at the Park ‘n fly because it did sell out so FYI if you are leaving on a trip in Montreal airport please do not show up expecting parking to be available… The airport in Freeport was decimated by the hurricane a few years ago so they’ve slowly been rebuilding it… It was a bit of a rude awakening on how they handle picking up your luggage after getting off the airplane… We were all kind of just standing in a room until they opened up a door and you walked out to find your suitcase and then you walked back in out the door to your bus… Don’t be shocked but they put your luggage on one bus and send it to the resort in another bus.. Once we got to the resort we went into the theatre area where Sunwing does Pre-check in where you get your bracelets and leave your luggage to enjoy the day until your rooms are ready at 3 PM…. No for those requiring adjoining rooms I suggest you walk over to the front desk after your pre-check in or by 130 or so to try to secure those rooms.. As they are not guaranteed almost everybody were successful in our group but not everybody… The rooms are quite basic nothing to write home about but if you’re an ocean view room they are Spectacular.. They only give you two water bottles a week so I highly recommend bringing a reusable water bottle to fill up in the lobby bar as they have a water machine there…. You’re not supposed to drink the water so if you plan on using the coffee machine in the room make sure you bring enough back to the room as well… The water is safe to brush your teeth … Normally I question whether we should leave our towels and swimsuits outside to dry, But we really didn’t have any problems with that in all honesty they didn’t seem to be too much of a theft worry.. The beach is wonderful however there are a lot of spots that have rock and coral I would bring some water shoes until you’re used to it and decide whether you need to use them or not.. If your face in the ocean and you walk to the right down near the end of the beach chairs where the sports centre is the Water has Very large sand spot where there’s not too many issues of coral… If you decide to go for a walk down the beach either way there are restaurants there but at your own cost.. However the swimming areas are wonderful especially if you walk to the left towards the end but a 40 minute walk or so… If you’re an early riser go down to the beach I didn’t make it but from what I’m told there are stingrays in the morning… Apparently they are quite lovely just be careful of their tails though.. Restaurants - All pretty decent I didn’t have any complaints really which if you know me personally is a miracle! Lol The only issue is to get reservations is a bit of a challenge so if you are up early jump on the app because that’s when the reservations open and you can get your dinners booked… The problem is it’s only four per reservation so make a note if your family of five… The Buffet has different theme nights but they weren’t always on track with that however there’s always something to eat and it was good not just passable the food was quite decent… There are two bars in the lobby bar and the beach bar.. The lobby bar at 7:30 AM is also a coffee bar they make fantastic cappuccinos, Lattes and espressos.. Snack bar – is down by the beach bar and they have hamburgers and hotdogs french fries chicken fingers and pizza Daily.. At the night time snack which I believe starts at 10 PM not sure because let’s be real I never made it that far has a different selection but also some of the same selection… The staff I find this in any real Caribbean destinations some of them do you have an attitude… Especially at the lobby bar during the day… There is two women one of them is taller With long braids, she’s got the worst attitude you’ve ever experienced in your life… The nighttime stuff at that bar is fantastic and super fun… Beach bar they’re almost always awesome they’re joking and laughing with you… Frint desk, bad attitudes, Like they couldn’t be bothered talking to you… The shorter reps are great the shorter one is hilarious… Reminder if you have a group of people travelling 10 or more and get a discount on your excursions… Speaking of excursions if you’re doing a water one where they’re snorkelling make sure you take the 9 AM departure because if you leave at 11 AM you do not get the same experience, Due to the change in the tides… I honestly can’t believe how hot it was and I never burn I spent two days in a T-shirt… I ended up buying 70 sunblock and I normally only were 30 maybe it’s because I’m getting older lol… The price of sunblock there is not of this world but I recommend bringing extra.. Please be advised there is no bank machine on site, No duty-free on site nor is there a duty-free at the airport so if you want to buy some alcohol make sure you take a little tour outside the resort to the mall or something… On-site store – they have quite a bit of things there but no word of a lie it is pricey so if you’re looking for a chocolate bar or a bag of chips bring them with you.. A large bag of chips is 8.00usd… And a small chocolate bar is 3.00usd. The entertainment staff were fun teens and young adults had a great time with them… I don’t know where they get their energy because they pretty much start from 10 AM to 2 AM… There is a disco on site as well after the evening shows up believe it starts at 11 PM There quite a few games and activities played with the entertainment staff throughout the day there is also the trapeze… If you were going to go on the trapeze you have to schedule an appointment at the towel hut.. You’re not allowed to be sweaty and you’re not allowed to have sunblock on so schedule your time accordingly… Evening outdoor seating… There is quite a bit however there’s not a lot of light outside so if you have a portable little lantern or some thing that might be useful if you like to play cards.. There are two sides the resort I was in the Greenside ocean view room but I felt like the cleaning staff didn’t really care about the cosmetics of the walkway area going to your room… I was pretty disappointed with the fact that it was dirty more often than not.. That is my only real disappointment Besides the staff’s attitude… So reminder bring some sunscreen, snacks, reusable drink containers like a Bubba, enough money for tipping etc. as there’s no big machine, definitely a hat and water shoes.. Please feel free to ask any questions Another note about a joining rooms it wouldn’t hurt for you to call the day before arriving as that is when the rooming list is at the front desk to make this request and also have an attitude your file… I do requested it at time of booking and with tour operator remarks but they always say they do not get the request Sidenote – if you walk down the beach to the right there’s this little restaurant on the beach where you can have some seafood.. It was quite delicious to lobster tails for $30 and I had shrimp and coleslaw for $17 I definitely would go back because it was delicious
We had the best time at this resort!! The reviews are trash and do not at all accurately describe how wonderful this place truly is. It’s all about your mind set, positive mind positive experience! The rooms can be updated but who cares why are you trying to be in them so much!? The bartenders and entertainment staff are truly wonderful! Jameco, Shaquille, Freddie, and Kelvin were some of my favorite bartenders bc! And Mary and Amie are two wonderful entertainment specialists! We will definitely be back one day!
