Villa Cora is located in a centuries-old park that overlooks the Boboli Gardens, on the hills just outside the historical centre of Florence. The villa is an aristocratic residence built at the end of the XIX century upon commission by Baron Oppenheim reflecting the architectural styles of that period. It is dominated by a strong eclectic decor that provides the villa with different, sometimes even bizarre, artistic styles. Villa Cora, inaugurated when Florence was the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, has become throughout the years one of the major cultural and cosmopolitan symbols of Florence.
Villa Cora earned its reputation by hosting international guests of great importance, such as Princess Eugenia, wife of Napoleon III, and the Russian composer Tchaikovsky. In addition, it has always been considered the most beautiful residence of the Tuscan capital. Villa Cora became an exclusive grand hotel at the end of 1960 and reopened in late 2010 after a detailed three-year restoration. In 2016, Villa Cora becomes part of The Leading Hotels of the World, an international collection of luxury independent hotels.

The villa is beautiful and elegant, the pool area is lovely but be careful of the rooms. Some in the main villa are small and dark but still charged at an extortionate rate. Service was cool and not overly friendly apart from the day when a wedding party was arriving and it seemed to improve dramatically. The Shuttle system is good but not something you can rely on to be there when you need it but it is a good add on. The outdoor terrace is lovely and views towards Florence are beautiful. There is some road noise due to the position of the hotel close to a busy road. I have given feedback direct to management and hope this might be considered for the future guests to enjoy as it would greatly enhance this beautiful and unique hotel.

This property was a perfect blend of relaxing and convenient to Florence sightseeing. It was warm during our stay and we took advantage of the pool and shuttle service everyday. The junior suite was very comfortable and spacious and nice turn down service to keep it fresh. We stayed four nights and wish we had booked more.

This was a return visit to beautiful Vila Cora. It’s a great choice for people who want easy access to Florence but with the benefit of a pool. Having seen the sights many times, this is good option for us, as the hotel runs a bus service for guests and so we would spend the day around the pool and then into Florence in the evening. Thank you to the driver who took us to Piazza Michelangelo to see the sunset. Because it is so beautiful it is a popular wedding venue, often with large gatherings during the day by wedding guests staying elsewhere, which the hotel allows. It can therefore get very busy poolside and noisy. On the day of the wedding the main public spaces close after breakfast to prepare. The pool also means the hotel is popular with families as very few Florence hotels have a pool. Ahead of arrival I contacted the hotel to ask if it would be possible to have an annexe room which is where we had previously stayed, the hotel replied that whilst they couldn’t guarantee, they would make a note and this was fine with us. When we arrived we were advised that we had requested a room in the Vila, which confused us a little and were taken up to the top floor. The room was small and dark, it was hot in Florence and the air con struggled, however it has a large walk in shower and a balcony with lovely views. Ahead of arrival I also emailed about a private visit to San Gimignano but didn’t receive a reply. Breakfast is fantastic, with a wide range of options of the highest quality, we ate on the terrace which was lovely. Pool service was a bit hit and miss and you didn’t always get everything you’d ordered. Same with housekeeping, on a couple of evenings there was no turndown service and no complimentary water left on one. My glasses also were knocked under the bed. It’s for these reasons that this year no five circles, that said, I would return as the Vila Cora ticks a lot of boxes and Florence is my favourite city.
