URSO Hotel is located in a privileged enclave between the central districts of Chamberí, Tribunal, and Chueca. The hotel is a historic building built by José María Mendoza Ussía. This edifice integrates the royal character of the bourgeois architecture of Madrid during the 20th-century, with the modernity and comfort of a modern luxury hotel.
The building was home to the renowned company “Papelera Española”. The edifice maintains the neoclassical elegance with its towers, corner chamfers or the classic viewpoints that support the noble balcony. Its history can also be felt in the interior spaces, with original features such as the central patio, the colourful stained-glass windows, the decorative tiles, the library, the marble floors, and the wooden walls.

The hotel is located in a quiet section of the City. The service was excellent and breakfast was served in an elegant room in the second floor. We are planning to return next year. The only complaint we have is the noise produced every time a car passed over a steel platform on the street. The Hotel staff tried to solve the problem but were not able to move us to another room.
URSO was not on my radar. I was going to visit our son in Madrid and stay at one of the better know luxury hotel. But for a couple of reason, I ended up at the URSO and I’m very glad I did. The URSO is a small boutique hotel. The decor is beautiful and calming. It’s in a great neighborhood’s, close to many excellent restaurants. The rooms are on the smaller side (typical in Europe) but very comfortable. The shower pressure was great & the bedroom sound proof. The staff was always helpful and smiling (especially Diego, Lissibet and Roberto at the front door). The food was also excellent. We had lunch on our first day and breakfast every mornings. Lastly, the lobby bar is a great place to chill before going out for dinner. I would gladly go back….
After researching several hotels, hotel URSO was the choice for a 7 night stay. I was meeting my husband in Madrid so I arrived on my own from the airport and was immediately greeted and welcomed with smiles and helpful service . I felt a little queasy from overnight flight/taxi ride and the welcoming team got me to my room quickly .the room was perfect size with a view of the park with balcony doors that open - a small step out but wonderful to open for fresh air. The bed and room amenities were perfect. The bed was very comfortable and the room also has black out curtains. Usually we never use the in room coffee maker but we found ourselves using the espresso maker daily, it was quite good. The bathroom was nicely appointed - separate tub, separate shower and toilet with its own door. The bar/lounge area is very relaxing and at night has piano music. The food and beverage choices were tasty and service is relaxed, you’re not rushed. We also indulged in some room service and it was perfectly brought within the asked timeframe. The location is walking distance of 15-20 minutes to many popular tapas and historic buildings. I walked by myself to meet my small tour group at the Prado in about 20min or so and walked back later in the day and took time to browse some shops along the way. We used the gym/spa area almost daily and also booked massages - wonderful and one of the better massages that we have had while traveling . Each night, we had turn down service with a special note and tasty treat from fruits , chocolates and on the last night, the famous cookies from the nuns - which I had wanted to go to in person , but never made it there - a very special treat . When we needed a taxi , the reception and door team made it happen , even walking down a block on an early morning to get one for us. Someone made a comment in one of the review that it is dark in the hotel , it’s not W hotel dark , trying to be hip. Hotel URSO is muted lighting and relaxed and polished without being stuffy . The mix of people at the hotel represented some European travelers and a few English speaking travelers - a nice mix of people who all seem to be enjoying their stay. 7 nights can be a challenge at any hotel - and this hotel hit all the marks - sometimes it can be the simplest gesture that makes the difference - the hotel URSO team - every interaction from dining , spa, front door, reception , housekeeping, made our stay 5* and enhanced our stay and enjoyment of Madrid. After walking many many steps throughout the day, it was enjoyable to have such a lovely hotel “home” to come back to each night . Can’t wait to visit again .
