We chose Turtle Beach for its all-inclusive package, kids club and beach. It was only a fifteen-minute transfer from the airport which was welcome after the long flight. The resort took some getting used to as it wasn’t clear how things worked: there were few signs and little information to refer to. In hindsight we should have taken advantage of one of the daily orientation tours: it would have de-mystified the place a lot quicker. Once we did have the place sussed, however, we realised the fundamental culture of Turtle Beach was like being a guest at a friend’s home. You can have whatever you like, the place tailors itself to you not the other way round. This probably accounts for why people have quite different experiences there—you make of it what you will. Once we got our head round this, we had a much more relaxed and enjoyable time. E.g., they can make you all sorts at the bar not just what’s on the cocktail menu. Just ask. We knew from other reviews Turtle Beach wasn’t going to be in pristine condition and indeed it requires some renovation, which the management recognises. The rooms have seen better days. Some of our bathroom fittings were half detached from the wall. However, everything worked, the rooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable, the air con was great and there was always plenty of hot water for showers. And the external spaces were clean and well-maintained, with plenty of staff on hand to help with anything we required from poolside drinks to towels and water sports. Be warned, certain parts of the beach are regularly red flagged as the waves can be dangerous. However, guests have access to the whole stretch of Maxwell Beach, including the zones protected by breakwaters for peace of mind. Our kids loved playing at the beach and crab-spotting at the rocks. The team at the kids club also kept them well entertained with various activities, which allowed us some precious time together. We’ve struggled elsewhere with feelings of guilt dropping them off at kids clubs but no such worries here. In fact, some days it was hard to get them out of the place. We mixed up dining options to keep things interesting. The Sand Trap grill was our choice for lunch, and they also did a decent battered red snapper in the evenings (book in advance). So we could dine one evening at the Italian restaurant—good steak, btw—we put our two in the kids club for movie night. Arlene (who they adored) arranged it so that they could eat earlier than usual with their favourite burgers and fries and a mountain of ketchup all ordered in advance and sitting at a special table. Other nights, the buffet could be hit and miss but the breakfasts were always good (try the Bajan pepper sauce with a full English for a spicy Barbadian twist). The best thing about the resort is its staff, they are focused on providing great customer service and invite feedback from guests (of all ages). They arranged the transit back to the airport days in advance, and on the day we checked out the concierge stowed our luggage and we had use of a room to change in (booked early that morning) so we could enjoy our last day. The resort would benefit from a makeover as it needs one. However, this did not put a dampener on our holiday, which we fully enjoyed and would highly recommend for the whole family.
I was extremely concerned about the negative reviews prior to our visit. I shouldn't have worried as the staff were superb. From the moment we arrived we loved every minute. Food was great, rooms were spot on and all the staff looked after us. Would highly recommend! Thank you to all the staff in the restaurants and bars, and to housekeeping who kept our room spotless. A 5* holiday.
Just got back with my family. It’s our second year in a row. Beautiful location and great hotel. The staff are all super lovely and friendly. Fantastic with the kids especially the flying club fish club. The kids have come back with some amazing crafts they made there. My children are 5 and 9. House keeping is immaculate and all the staff work so hard at looking after you. Maradonna round the pool always making the rounds with drinks and a massive smile on his face. The water sports guys always round getting people involved. Nothing was too much trouble. I managed to get a tooth ache while out there and my face swelled up but reception sorted it all out and got me sent to the dentist and pharmacist all within the hour ( better than at home). Great location to walk up to the gap at night. Food was great especially the Italian. Thanks again for a great holiday x
