We have now stayed here three times inside of 2 years because of the accommodations and the service. Ask for PG she will make the visit so much better. Although it is not as close to the shopping as Grace Bay we prefer the resort, staff and beach to Grace Bay because it is overcrowded with hotels and people. Get a penthouse or 4th floor or higher for the best views.
I have never been one to write a negative review on a property, but the Shore Club really disappointed and let me down big time. I booked this hotel for my wife’s big birthday. We travel each year for her birthday to a different nice place and I always inform the reservation team ahead of time upon booking that it’s a birthday. I’m not expecting or asking anything big from any hotel, except for maybe an upgrade if available, or having the staff know upon arrival or throughout our stay that we are celebrating a birthday so that they can welcome her and make her feel special until we leave. Every place we’ve gone to over the past 10 years or so has gone above and beyond one way or another knowing it’s a special occasion. The Shore Club however sadly failed to do so. I had contacted the hotel quite a few times before arriving to make sure they were aware since this was really a special birthday and told them anything they can do for us would be greatly appreciated. They kept confirming that this was duly noted, however upon arrival, there were no notes in the system whatsoever. I was super annoyed. We had also booked our reservation through virtuoso which entitled us to an upgrade if available, but we didn’t get it, despite me reminding them several times prior. I figured they were full due to the holiday weekend, but seemingly the room next door to us was vacant the entire time of our stay. Housekeeping let me see it one day as the door was left open. It had a much nicer view than we had, so I’m not sure why they couldn’t accommodate my simple request- especially knowing we were celebrating something special in addition to being entitled to it through virtuoso, and of course in addition to me pointing this out several times before we arrived. Clearly this was all NOT noted. After checking in and getting settled we went for lunch. Our order got completely messed up. The supervisor at the restaurant made it right but it still wasted about an hour of our time. This was the last thing I needed as I was already very frustrated that my requests and notes went ignored. That night we went back to our room to relax and get ready for dinner. We had asked them to bring up a bucket of ice and this literally took over an hour. Upon calling to check up on it twice after, they said they were understaffed and we’d just have to wait. They said I can get it myself on the basement level of our building, which I would have gladly done to save time, but we didn’t have a bucket in the room, so I was at a loss. We ate that night at their main restaurant Sui- Ren. Food was good but multiple servers kept asking if we were celebrating anything special. It should’ve been in their notes but was completely neglected. I mentioned that it was my wife’s birthday in two days, but it fell on deaf ears. We also ate there on our last night and same thing. No notes that we were celebrating anything special, but for some reason they sang happy birthday to a few other parties that same night. The next morning I got up early and asked to speak to a manager. He (Kerry) came out and completely apologized and said that the front desk should’ve acknowledged the occasion immediately upon our arrival, despite me contacting them numerous times about this. He said he’d look into upgrading us to a room with a nicer view - as ours was blocked by a tree. He never followed up on that, but we were settled at that point and didn’t feel like packing and unpacking again. This should’ve been addressed at check in once again, but not the end of the world. Lastly he said that for my wife’s birthday the following day, they would leave an amenity in the room. They did end up leaving balloons and a bottle of champagne. This of course was appreciated, but had I not spoken up or reminded him of the occasion and my frustration, I’m sure this wouldn’t have happened. We never even saw or heard from Kerry after this. I would’ve expected him or someone else in management to contact us to see how the rest of the trip was going, as they knew I wasn’t happy, but nothing. We never even got a chance to meet the general manager until our very last day. He found me at the pool at our last hour before heading to the airport and deeply apologized for our poor experience. He said my feedback is good for the resort so that issues like these don’t happen in the future. At that point it was just too little too late unfortunately. I hope they can improve in these areas for future guests, but too bad it was at my expense. Some other negative points or suggestions for improvement: Breakfast is included but the quality is quite substandard. It’s a small buffet located against the wall and is super congested with guests on top of each other. There is no salmon, cheese, or meat plates as you’d expect from a 5 star resort. It is exactly the same everyday, and is no better than what you’d expect from a 3 star hotel. It’s ok for a day or two, but after that it gets old. Additionally the juice comes out of a plastic bottle. If you want fresh juice, it’s extra. Seriously?? The beach and ocean are beautiful, as you’d expect from Turks and Caicos, but the beach lounges are not cushioned and are extremely uncomfortable. They need to add cushions or replace them altogether. The lounges at the pool however are great and super comfortable. Service at the beach is mediocre. They will help set up your chair and bring you bottled water to start, but that’s it. If you need anything else throughout the day, you must flag them down or walk up to their hut, as they do not come around asking if you need anything. Some days they passed around amenities (frozen fruit skewers/sorbet cups) and other days this didn’t happen. It was inconsistent. The hotel is isolated and is a 10 -15 minute drive to the popular restaurants in town within the famous Grace Bay Area. The hotel provides an hourly shuttle, but only to its sister resorts and back. There really is no need at all to go to those resorts- except to maybe visit one of them for dinner. Fortunately one of the sister properties, the Sands, is close to town but still a good 15-20 minute walk away once dropped. The shuttle passes town but drivers are NOT permitted to stop and let anyone out. The hotel should change this as the shuttle really is useless for the most part. A drop off and pick up spot right in town would help quite a bit. We did check out the new Ritz Carton in Grace Bay while in town on our second day and loved it. We spoke to a supervisor who was extremely nice and welcoming. She was so kind and it made us want to leave the Shore Club early and switch over to the Ritz. She offered to accommodate if we wanted to make the change and I’m sure she would have made our stay super special. I was ready to switch the next day, but figured why not give the Shore Club a chance to redeem themselves? On top of that, we were there to relax, so changing hotels would have taken up a good part of our relaxation time so we just left it. I must say though, In the 15 minutes we spoke to her, she must have wished my wife a happy birthday more times than anyone combined at Shore Club did in 5 days. We originally considered staying at the Ritz, but chose the Shore Club as it seemed to have more of a resort feel. I really wish we stayed at the Ritz instead. Spa is very basic. There are no facilities like a sauna or steam room. We didn’t have any treatments, as it looked like nothing to write home about. The service in general across the resort is very slow and sometimes nonexistent. Nobody seems to go out of their way for the guests and requests sometimes took forever. We are very seasoned travelers and have been to about 90% of the top resorts within Mexico, Caribbean and South America. We know what five star service is. Every now and then, something may go wrong, but management at other places has always been quick to fix any issues and of course follow up throughout our stay. We were so excited to finally try the Shore Club, but unfortunately we were very let down, given how much we paid. All in all, the resort aesthetics again are stunning, but I’d avoid this hotel if you are celebrating a special occasion. They will most likely forget about it unless you constantly remind them. Besides the Ritz, I was considering a couple of other hotels on different islands for this trip, but I stuck with the Shore Club since we hadn’t been yet, which I sadly regret. Turks and Caicos is a fantastic island, and we plan to return soon, but would not stay here again. We would stay elsewhere and hope for a much better experience.
This was our first trip to Turks and Caicos and because of the shore club and the hospitality I can say we will be going back every year. Upon arrival we were greeted by our personal concierge Shane with fresh squeezed juices. He had someone take us up to our room and immediately when we walked in the views were breathtaking. We booked a penthouse suite and it was worth every penny. From the turn down service to the spacious rooms it was amazing. Once we got there Shane made sure we felt comfortable and didn’t have to think of anything. He booked us a cabana, scheduled rides for our dinners and excursions and provided excellent suggestions for food and things to do. The beach was beautiful, the hotel was amazing, and the hospitality by everyone helped us forget about everything and be completely relaxed. If you are going to Turks stay at the shore club period. My only regret is we couldn’t stay longer. Thanks again to Shane and everyone at the shore club who made our first Turks experience a memorable one!!
