We visited for my birthday and the staff left a lovely card and a beautiful little cake in the room. The hotel is in the original Midland Bank Head Quarters building and from the moment you walk in you experience great jazz music and a feeling of luxury. There are many restaurants and bars to choose from which all serve great food and drink by friendly staff. We stayed and used the spa the following morning which was very competitively priced. We then had the ‘Feast’ booked for lunch. A two hour slot where you can eat all you like from the buffet which is extensive. Salad, seafood, roasts and desserts to please any appetite. A great place to stay and eat or drink. A little out the way, but that’s what the tube is for! Well worth a visit

This place reeks of opulence and money on a grand scale as the former banking hall is re-purposed as an offering to the worhsippers of the god, Baccus. It's like a scene from a roaring 20s palace as City types lounge, loiter and swagger while the central podium offers entertainment by an assortment of musicians catering for lounge lizards. Opulence and decadence on a grand scale with patrons vetted at the door by Soviet-looking types in black as to whether they are about to spend enough. Sadly, as with many conversions of former banking premises, the rooms are a bit hit and miss and don't quite carry through the grandeur of the front of house. A useful and impressive meeting place and space and good to see so many original features retained.

The entrance is rather grand and I had high hopes for this hotel. However, my room was disappointing: Location-wise, the room was isolated from other rooms. I had to take the lift to the fifth floor, wind through the corridors to find what looked like a service door to the stairs, go down half a flight of stairs (smelling of grease and cooking – I assume the kitchens are below), go through another door where there was one room and then up another flight of stairs, to my room (there by itself). Especially late at night, I did not feel particularly secure wondering through the hotel to get to this room. Inside the room, it was very dark. Not only was the lighting poor, but when I opened the curtains, the windows were whited out. On the plus side, the Cowshed toiletries were very nice and the room was clean. Location of the hotel is convenient.
