Nothing to show.
We stayed 11 nights at the Tamarind and loved it. As others have said there are areas that could do with a lick of paint and some maintenance or replacement but there is nothing major. It does seem there is working going on in that respect, there appears to have been new planting in the gardens and some rooms were being updated while we were there. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. We had a room with a sleeper chair which was one of the smaller rooms but we found it very large, much larger than we expected with a great view of the sea. In the room there is a fridge which is filled with soft drinks and beer when you first arrive, this is free but this is not replenished. You do get 2 bottles of water in the room every day. The bed was massive and really comfortable. We found the food really good. We did eat next door in the Italian restaurant once which was very good but decided to stay in the hotel for the other nights as we enjoyed the food there so much. There was a mixture of a la carte and buffet nights and we enjoyed the a la carte nights the most. There was always plenty of choice whether it was a la carte or buffet. Breakfast was good too and our mornings were brightened up by Ether the egg lady who made perfect poached eggs and omelettes and also gave me cooking lessons at the same time. We found the service in the restaurant to be excellent, probably the best we have experienced in the Caribbean. The service at all the bars was very good too, you never waited long to be served despite many guests ordering cocktails which had to be made from scratch each time. There always seemed plenty of staff available. Some of the bar staff even knew what I was going to order and started making the drinks when they saw me waiting. Only part of the beach was in use while we were there due to the damaged wall where the largest part of the beach was. However, there was still 30 odd sunbeds available and despite some people reserving sun bed we never had a issue getting beds when we turned up after breakfast. Work was about to start on the wall just after we left and we were told it was scheduled to last 3 weeks. Once that is complete there will be even more room. One of the really nice features of the hotel is the layout which means it never feels crowded and we were there when it was 90% full. There are 3 pools with areas for sunbeds, a decking area with loads of seating and a lawn area which also has large seats in addition to the beach. We caught the water taxi to 2 of the 3 hotels you could visit, Waves and Crystal Cove, to have a look around. It was good to see the sister hotels but much preferred Tamarind and didn't stay at either long. Waves in particular was very compact and crowded on the beach. We really had a great time and wouldn't hesitate in going back to the Tamarind again when we return to Barbados.
On arrival room flooded and smelled damp. After many attempts to get to see the manager I hunted him down after a hour and a half. Moved to a better room. Speaking to regulars 5129 and 5128 have a long history of flooding , water coming up through the floor.
We just got back from a vacation at the Tamarind with 12 people ranging in ages from 13-82 and found something for everyone. The hotel is outdated in some areas but the staff, water sports, food, and ability to go to other resorts and restaurants far out weigh that. I think a little paint and touch ups here and there would be a nice touch. I think a little more communication with the front desk would be nice as well when it comes to booking, options, etc. You make a reservation and sometimes don't know if its confirmed until the day of and in some cases hours before. I'm being honest when I say that these minor things that I've mentioned are nothing in comparison to the fun we had. As a group we thought the food was good, maybe increase options at lunch to include chicken wings etc. The dining options at Waves, and Positanos next door is amazing and I'd give that 4 or 5 stars all day long. The staff is amazing here in every area. But I always say what you put out is what you get back. I would not listen to the bad reviews because we all had a great time! Again little things here and there that could improve but overall a great experience and we all hope to return in the future!
