St. James Hotel in the heart of Mayfair but tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac

This was our first stay at the St. James Hotel and Club and our first real experience of Mayfair having stayed for many years in Knightsbridge. We had a warm welcome from the young doorman who was resplendant in his uniform of traditional overcoat and hat as he helped us out of our taxi and carried our bags into the lobby. We were then met by Graham the concierge who welcomed us in and after we checked in he showed us to our room and later he again made sure we had settled in while we had a drink in the bar. Everyone was welcoming and friendly and we had a table reserved for us for a bar meal in the evening. The quality of the food, drink and service was very good and after a pleasant hour or so we went to our room. The facilities in the Superior room were modern, clean and luxurious. The only thing we had to ask for which came very quickly was non dairy milk and decaf tea and coffee. There are snacks and drinks in the room which you can buy but it woukd have been nice to have complimentary biscuits on the tea tray. Breakfast the next day was of high quality and unlike other places we have stayed in the Full English meant you could also have anything from the continental self service as well. Nadir was our waiter and his exuberance for service and attention to detail was infectious. We asked his name and those of others as we not only like to get to know the staff but also mention them in reviews. Its a shame though that they don't wear name badges as it would be easier to identify them. Also there was no feedback forms in the rooms which is unusual. Although everyone was friendly and attentive it would have been nice if all of the staff not just Graham welcomed us and called us by our names which we have had at other boutique five star hotels. We stayed for two nights and on the last day after we checked out we went for a Sunday morning wander and came back for our bags before getting a taxi back to the train Station. This hotel is ideally situated for St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly, Bond Street and Leicester Square. Reception was perfect and they thanked us for staying and hoped to see us again, which I'm sure they will, but again no name badges to thank them personally, especially the young lady who went outside in the cold to get us a taxi.

A wonderful experience.

An absolutely extraordinary experience -- the hotel is perfectly located whether you want to go around London by tube, taxi, or walking. The setting is classic and the rooms are modern and updated. But most of all, the staff is exceptional, particularly Graham, the head concierge -- able to help with the usual requests (good tours, shows, places to eat) and unusual ones (can my daughter find a place to practice her piano). A perfect place to stay while visiting one of the best cities in the world.

Lovely old school hotel with great service

I travelled to London from Paris for about 24hrs with my daughter. This hotel is located on a dead end street which was very quiet for London. The location of the hotel was a 5 min walk to the Tube station and 15 min walk to Buckingham Palace. Our room was a good size by London standards and it had a great terrace. We loved the robes in the bathroom. The best part of this hotel was the staff. Andrei was so kind and helpful getting us a taxi and carrying our heavy bags. Graham was an absolute delight! He made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. I was on this trip with my teenage daughter as a special trip before her high school graduation. My daughter said she felt like she was “treated like a queen”. That is a great testament to the service provided.
