The Sanctuary is a lovely small hotel, well located in Midtown Manhattan The staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. The rooms are *tiny* but very well appointed, and the price is fair— we paid a little less than $1000 for 4 nights. The only problem is that the room lighting is *terrible*. A desk and chair are provided— but the only light for the desk is the central ceiling fixture, and when you sit at the desk, you totally block the light and you cannot see your keyboard… or what you’re writing… or a book… or anything! I’m writing this while perched on the bed bc I absolutely couldn’t do it at the desk. So, Sanctuary, *please*: just put a lamp on the desks!
This hotel is in a great location. Staff are friendly and Jimmy sorted out a room issue for us straight away. Couldn’t fault them at all. Room was cleaned daily, and quiet. No outside noise or from guests so slept soundly. Downside to the hotel, the room was a little tired, with wallpaper peeling off, noise from the heating system was loud and the gap around the door meant you could see the light coming into the room all through the night. The breakfast included, isn’t continental. It’s bread, cereal and a few other bits. We went elsewhere after the first morning.
This was a great place to stay and so conveniently located to many places. Room was kept clean every day and the room was quiet at night unlike some of the other hotels people talked about where sirens and cars kept them awake. Ben the doorman was so friendly and helpful. He made me feel welcome and helped me schedule a cab for the morning. We even discovered an Iowa connection! :-) Hot coffee & tea was always welcome at the end of the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers.
