Travelled as a couple for 2 weeks ...we were allocated room 1217 building 3 of the hideaway section .. no problems at all.. lovely comfy bed great shower , spotless room.. it's a lovely place thru out , beach nice although narrow .. pools good...it was extremely busy with loads of kids in the main pools but never bothered us...the hideaway pool area is sold as a romantic retreat ... Forgot that it's a party pool...the restaurants are sold as unlimited reservation free dining... Here lies the problem.. the diamond club upgrade allows reservations .. you'll go to be told come back in one hour as all the tables are reserved,, the biggest gripe I have is the coffee situation at breakfast .. ur either shown to a table with no cups and you have to wait till clean ones become available or your lucky enough to have a cup but nobody to give you coffee.. if you get some you struggle to get a refill.. I believe there is a staffing issue throughout this resort which is a big shame coz other than the few things I've moaned about we loved it... If your going you won't be disappointed.. it's not perfect , but it's close.. enjoy ...
Inconsistency is the word which springs to mind when reflecting on our stay at this hotel. No 2 days were the same in terms of our experience, and it didn’t leave us feeling this was a 5* resort at the end of it. To start with the good, the food & drink options throughout the resort we found of both a good variety and good quality. The restaurants (in particular the steakhouse and Italian) were memorable for the tastiness of the meals. The gym is very good and modern and the water park next door at the splash resort is also excellent. However there were varying degrees of service quality throughout our stay. Some days we’d be waiting 15 minutes for our food to show up, other days over an hour. On another occasion the cleaner showed up at the end of the day, we waited 30 minutes for them to finish up and due to how late the cleaner showed up, our minibar was not refilled, leaving us without drinking water for the evening and following day. We didn’t have any problems getting into the restaurants (diamond club can reserve, other guests just show up and see if a table is free). However to add to the inconsistencies we had, on our 1st night when trying to get into the steakhouse we were told to return in 45 minutes, we returned, reminded the staff member and she asked us to wait another 10 minutes, we returned in 10 minutes and she still did not recognise us and I had to explain we’ve been told to wait twice. However on another night at the Italian We were asked to wait 30 minutes, and when returning we were greeted with a big smile and the member of staff remembered who we were (the kind of service you would hope for throughout your stay). What spoiled our holiday the most for us was the constant sales pitches. I get that it is part and parcel of a vacation like this, but the levels of sales pressure here were on another level to anywhere else I have experienced. You could barely go 5 minutes at the beach without someone trying to sell you the excursions/water sports/spa treatment’s/pictures with animals by the beach or cigars. I came on holiday to relax and read/listen to music by the beach and not be interrupted every 5 minutes (I am not exaggerating here, it was INCESSANT). Overall we did have a good time and it was nice to get away, I just feel this resort did not meet our expectations in terms of quality and relaxation.
Firstly the Hideaway part of the Royalton resort was great however overall it was quite limited. Just one extra restaurant compared to the normal Royalton guests. The room was ok, the fridge was not filled enough for my liking and sometimes was missed on a daily basis. The room was on the back and faces a road which sometimes got quite noisy with the vehicles heading towards the restaurants. The maids did a great job however they seem to come quite late, sometimes around 5pm when we were wanting to get changed ready for dinner. 6/10 We enjoyed the pool bar which offered the best drinks/cocktails made by Juan, Ozuna and Greisy who made the experience amazing! They were so friendly and we returned everyday for their great drinks . 10/10 Alongside the drinks, the Vibe team (Bernard and Jean Paul) were really friendly, helpful and always engaging with us so a big thanks to them. 10/10 The only downside for the entertainment was that the equipment they were given but that’s a reflection on the hotel rather than the staff. We visited El Dorado most days whether it was for breakfast, lunch or dinner and every time we got the service you would expect. 10/10 In terms of the other parts of the resort, things were not so good. We visited all the restaurants and we found Jade (Asian) was our least favourite as it was not very authentic and generally did not taste very nice. 2/10 Hunter Steakhouse was very inconsistent, one night it was sublime, the food and service were spot on. 10/10 We returned the following day for my 30th birthday at 6.50 for my 7pm reservation to have to wait outside for 60 minutes while other guests went it. The management just seemed very disorganised and just sat people as and when they liked rather than sticking to the reservations. To add to this, the service was poor, the waiter spilt water on the table and then kept delivering food to our table which we did not order. The steak wasn’t cooked to my desired request and everything just seemed rushed which summed up a disappointing birthday. 0/10 The buffet offers a big range of food from all different cuisines and the majority was ok. However on occasion the servers would take our drinks order but then never return until we had to ask again part way through our meal. One time we went the whole meal without being asked if I wanted to drink. 7/10 Zen offers an entertaining experience however I was expecting more than just chopped up veg and meat with rice. The server were helpful. 6/10 Grazie was a buffet at lunch and an Italian at dinner. It offered similar to the main buffet and the pizza was not very good at all. The dough just seemed to taste like cardboard. Again the service was fine and helpful. 6/10 The sports bar were not able to show on screen a big soccer match therefore all the fans had to watch it on the small screens to the side of the bar with no sound. The match kept buffering due to the poor connection and overall was a disappointing experience. 4/10 Another disappointing point was the nightlife which was pretty much non existent where most bars shut at 10pm. There were a few parties (white party and Dominican party which were ok mostly due to the Vibe team but other than this everything just went quiet at 10pm. 4/10 Overall I did not feel the hotel was a 5* and won’t be returning.
