Royal West Indies Resort

We first stayed at The Royal West Indies in 2014& 2015 . We loved the resort then and love it even more in 2023 . RWI is like a bottle of fine red wine . It only gets better with age . The resort was both well built and well designed at inception and the management has done a world class job of maintaining the property on every level. Both the interiors of the rooms and the exteriors of the buildings are in like new condition.If you factor in that the property is 20 years old and direct beach front , this reflects on professional management. But let’s talk landscaping ! The first thing we noticed after 8 years of not visiting RWI was the landscaping . Again it has been meticulously taken care of , with extreme attention to detail and health of the vegetation. The grounds were lovely 8 years ago and breathtaking now . Add in a great restaurant and bar , with friendly staff and you have a world class resort on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world . Last , but not least , the water is the color of Windex and the sand is soft and white .

We were not sure what to expect when we got here, and we had read all the reviews about this resort. My wife likes to be right on the ocean so we rented an ocean front room. The resort consists of 8 buildings with 15 rooms each. Building one is the 1 directly on the beach and has the ocean front rooms. Some of the other buildings are much further back from the beach, and they say the rooms may be ocean view, but you may not be able to see much. The cost of an ocean front room is only slightly higher than the ocean view rooms, and I would strongly recommend it. Several reviews said that the Wi-Fi was bad. However, we had 4 bars in our building and there was also Wi-Fi on the beach which worked fine. The TV used the cable company and had several channels to choose from. The room was very clean and well decorated. Housekeeping came every day to change out the towels and make up the bed and clean up The dishes. All the rooms have king badd's, microwave and a refrigerator and freezer. The A/C worked fine, and there is a ceiling The resort is not that close to the nearest downtown and shopping area, but it's only about a mile walk along the roads to get there. There are several great restaurants in the shopping area and a grocery store. We had a rental car, so that wasn't an issue for us. They also have free bicycles and Kayaks and Hobie cats. We did not dine on the resort, but all of the other staff seemed to be very polite and friendly. There was no problem getting lounge chairs on the beach as well as umbrellas, no charge. If we had to come back, we would definitely stay here again.

This is my idea of a perfect Caribbean resort. It is small with all rooms being an easy walk to the perfect beach. It was never a problem to get a lounger or towels. The landscaping is just gorgeous. We had a first floor patio that was surrounded by flowers with a nice view. Everything is well maintained and the employees are mostly friendly. The bed was very comfy and it was so quiet at night, with a faint sound of ocean waves. We ate at the on site restaurant for breakfast every morning and in the evening we would walk to area restaurants. The weather was a little cooler than Punta Cana and Jamaica where we usually go. Glad I packed one long sleeve shirt and a jacket. But the afternoons were perfect with warm sun and a wonderful breeze. It was so nice to have a washer and dryer in the unit. Hope to return soon.
