Newly renovated rooms, great on site restaurant, great service, current construction, technical and cleanliness issues. Loved the vibe of Renaissance Amsterdam. Room and bathroom were incredibly spacious and well appointed. Loved the location and on site restaurant and service. They are currently doing renovations so have a temporary lounge and some floors have active construction, maybe keep in mind if you plan on staying in the immediate future and sleeping during the day. They were having a technical outage while we were there. Our television never worked. Could not figure out how to make the lights stop turning off automatically and had to force down one of our electrical shades. Bathroom had some cleanliness oversights, a spot of blood under the toilet seat and a streak stain on the wall. Both came off easily with wiping.

Amazing stay… we recently returned to spent three nights at the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is great for first arrivals to town at the central station and for day trips to other small towns. The recently renovated rooms look amazing. Yes the hotel is still under renovation in some spots within the hotel, but the staff is putting out 110% to make sure all the guest have an amazing stay. special thanks to Dina in housekeeping, and Fran who runs the lounge as she does an incredible job making sure everyone is happy. Her multiple language skills make it very comfortable for all the guest visiting. when we return to Amsterdam, we will stay again at the Renaissance Amsterdam hotel. Aloha.

I understand that this place is undergoing renovations, so I'm not concerned so much about the inconveniences such as terribly inadequate breakfast space and the strange walk to the elevators. What I don't like about the rooms is that the renovated rooms are so poorly designed. There is not enough space in a King room for one person to be at the desk and another to pass by -- if I was larger, I couldn't even pull the desk chair out at all! The bet/whatever by the window is nothing short of useless: it faces away from the television, is not useful for sitting because there is no back support, and is really just a big padded luggage space. The lighting is not particularly functional; "high" level of light gives enough to work with in general, but when a workman had to come fix our safe (yes, we had a non-functional safe in a newly renovated room) there was practically no way to get adequate lighting there. The bathroom has no place to hang a hand tel and precious few hooks to hang anything else. The lighting in the bathroom is, as in so many hotels, terrible. The lit mirror-within-a-mirror is a poor substitute for actually being able to see without leaning over the counter. All in all I was prepared for the renovations, but not prepared for the poor choices made in room design, layout, utility, and lighting. I've stayed at many, many a Marriott property over the years, and I would choose a bang average Fairfield Suites over this place. I can only hope that all the construction that will make this the largest hotel in Amsterdam (500 roooms, they tell me) will include new wings with larger and more sensibly designed spaces. In short: the room we had on our river cruise was both larger (we had a mid level room on the ship) and much better designed than the newly renovated rooms at the Renaissance Amsterdam. It's a shame that Marriott is putting so much money into the property and making such poor decisions about it.
