Oia suites trip September 2022

Nice view, average room. Constant humming noise all hours because the adjacent property is the sanitary station. This was very annoying especially outside the room and by the pool but you get use to it. It was a good 10-15 minute walk each time to the heart of the action in Oia. Breakfast was subpar and fruit flies on everything when it came so we declined after the 2nd morning. Shower was in need of updating. There’s most definitely better options out there!

STAY AWAY! ANT INFESTATION, HORRIBLE SERVICE, REFUSED REFUND

Everything was ok until we found an ant infestation in the Honeymoon Suite. We took a few videos and went to the front desk to show them the ants crawling in and all over the room. She said "we are in nature" and said all they can do is clean the room again while we watch. All we wanted was a refund and they refused. She said her manager will not allow a refund. We wasted a total of 3 hours talking with her, talking on the phone with the credit card company, and then securing another hotel reservation. We ended up checking out and staying at the Canaves in Oia, which is a MUCH NICER 5 star hotel and was cheaper. I fully recommend the Canaves, DO NOT STAY AT OIA SUITES. Their service was abysmal. I attached a few photos of the ants but TripAdvisor won't allow me to upload videos which show them running around. DM me for videos and I'll send them to you.

We think we struck lucky with the perfect hotel.

Am lay by the pool typing this because I can't wait to go on about how lovely this place is. From the friendly check in (Efi and Maria are lovely, cheerful and incredibly helpful), the WOW moment as you walk over the top of the Suites to see the view for the first time - you'll instantly know what I mean when you get here, to the huge balcony with private sunbathing area, hot tub and eating area, our first half hour was a very happy and relieved one. We looked for about a month before we booked. Like many we looked at Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli before deciding on Oia and we had the chance to compare on the first full day when we took the hiking trail around to Fira, walking past many of the other hotels we had considered. Tried not to feel smug when you realise quite how crowded and overlooked many places are - it looks really pretty with the places stacked against the hillside, but when you're walking past people sat in their private hot tubs, and they're looking over the shoulder of the next suite down etc etc we really appreciated the privacy and space at Oia Suites. Having spent a little time in each of the towns, I would definitely recommend Oia. Fira seems geared to servicing the Cruise Ships and is a little frenetic, Firostefani and Imerovigli almost blend in to the sprawl of Fira now, whereas Oia has a character of its own, it's a little calmer, dare I say classier, and far more how I imagined Santorini to be. A few hints and tips: We hired a car, but unless you plan on making your own way to Akrotiri, I probably wouldn't recommend it. Even in October the buses run every half hour in and out of Fira (last bus back at 10). If you're doing the walk to Fira, wear supportive trainers at the least, some of the rough paths on the first legs are not for flip flops. Also if you're walking down to Ammoudi harbour, the same applies as the steps are worn smooth and a little slippy on the way down. I recommend the Catamaran trip, Efi and Maria can help you book, we had a great time and met some lovely people and the boat company staff were brilliant. Even though there's no restaurant, the room service food is great and surprisingly reasonably priced. Very handy if you've overdone the day's activities. The local shop is also handy and just 5 minutes stroll down the coastal path. Seriously, get this place booked already, I've not even raved about the views yet - they're kind of a given at Santorini, but having nobody between the hotel and the Caldera really helps. Oh and the place is spotless, incredibly chilled, calm and lovely. Stay here and thank me later
