Stunning property outside of the Hotel Zone with incredible amenities and terrific staff. Rooms are expansive, modern and well appointed. Gorgeous views everywhere. Note that this is a very family friendly spot so if you are a couple or going for a quiet getaway it can feel a bit noisy/crowded (although they do have an adult pool :)). Breakfast buffet is unparalleled. For dinner, restaurants on property are good not great but better than anything else in Cancun. Good for a quick getaway.
Every Sunday In the past, Nizuc hosted the most spectacular seafood brunch buffet on the planet...well the Yucatanian planet...sadly with the passing of time and the change cooks (Sylvan from France) and the loss of several fabulous Mayan chefs the seafood brunch is but a fraction of what once was....Nowadays the restaurant has been relocated to the Cafe Playa inside the Hotel and with that brunch is served up more like an everyday all-inclusive smorgasbord than the famed Nizuc Sunday brunch of the past. Unfortunately the brunch does not even come close to its illustrious gastronomy of its roots, although the Nizuc employees say there is a plan for it to return to its legendary status, it seems now that the hotel has lost its desire to be creative and has simply forgot about what it once was. Sadly it has become a lost cause with no definitive time to return it to its famed bistro class of excellence, where it once ruled all of the eateries in Cancun put together. Historically the brunch was located in a secret parking lot down by the lagoon on the canal below the endless pool. One needed a special password to get through the guard just to get in the front door. Famous locals, actors, actresses and models from around the world would converge on this location, but no longer. Can I please say what's missing? Lets start with the Piernes de Jamon from Espana to start, even though it was a seafood buffet this amazing pig leg and hoof was the centerpiece of the place setting the tone and ambience for the greatest eating experience of your life...And what of those hot french baguettes the baker's would set aside for those Sunday guests on their way out the door, we always took 2...I can't forget to mention the fabulous Cynthia who lead the Jazz Trio that played into the afternoon. She was from Virginia and for years sang the standards every Sunday and became a fixture on the Cancun music scene. And what about the BBQ Asado with shrimp, salmon and carne asada? Frankly the entire setup is skeptical…Hmmm what’s missing most from the equation? How about all of those Yucatanian salsas that used to be a fixture every Sunday situated on the table out by the BBQ area with at least 30 homemade salsas? Most of all and I say this with a broken heart because it took me 3 years to get the Mayan chefs at Nizuc to teach me the recipe and over 3 years to get it down pat, the Salsa Macha, a salsa so special, constructed to such perfection with just a hint of sweetness, a chili paste of 5 dried Yucatanian Chiles olive oil, white onion and garlic, which can no longer be recreated to the exactness, because that little Mayan Chef who was an absolute Salsa Macha making monster ran away from Nizuc never to be seen again when they moved to the other side of the hotel, hence the recipe went out the door with him and disappeared never to be see again not even close!!!! That on its own terms is such a tragedy...Imagine losing a cook that could make a sauce so good that it became the foundation the house was built on! It must be very expensive to throw out more food than you serve...please bring back what one was...El Beastia!
This property was a nightmare for us. We have never experienced theft of this level anywhere else in all our travels. The last night of our stay, couple of hours before our flight we had our belongings stolen from the room. They conducted an investigation as a formality however no results or serious follow ups! Definitely NEVER recommending any couple or family to travel to this Unsafe property. It looks beautiful but trust me it’ll ruin your holiday.
