My wife & I stayed at the New Road Hotel in February and were somewhat underwhelmed by it. The building itself is pretty cool (a converted textiles factory), spacious and conveniently located for a number of East End attractions (we went to the excellent Abba Voyage event just up the road in Bow). The initial welcome was somewhat indifferent, with the young lady sat at the Reception in a very grubby stained white tee shirt sounding rather bored and disinterested, reeling off what she had to say in a monotonous tone that was almost comical! The room was rather peculiar, somewhat narrow with an enormous double bed surrounded by three walls making acces a bit tricky, and a integral en suite bathroom encased by thick frosted glass. No curtains but a big electronically operated blind with a picture of a jeans pocket on it! Somewhat annoyingly there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and guests are advised to make use of the "Quiet Area/Library" on each floor to access a delicious "MaxPax" beverage! Sorry NRH, but not what you expect in a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was ok, with an interesting choice of healthy options but sadly not as hot as it should have been. All in all, it was ok but needs to improve in one or two areas.

Picked this location for a concert nearby. The hotel is nice, clean, modern and warm. The room was compact but had everything we needed. Air con/heating worked well. Nice toiletries in bathroom. Wifi was a bit intermittent in room. Sleep quality was ok. Staff were excellent throughout. Bar area was nice. However, draft beer choice limited to one lager and one ale, both from same brand. We chose not to eat in hotel as we have not enjoyed the MPW brand of restaurants in the past. Plenty of interesting options nearby. The area, in my opinion, felt a little more dangerous at night than, say, central London. Most travellers will also note it is not as clean.
