What we really disliked was the unavailability of the receptionist (Indian gentleman): On arrival we were asked for £400 deposit only to find put $40 per day is non refundable- $35 of which you are forced to use in the hotel cafe bar (highly overpriced!!!) or you loose your money, the rest, $5 was tax. Too bad there wasn't any indication of this, other than a physical flyer placed at the reception. We had no internet and cash only, this was however not accepted and we had a big trouble to check in. The response of this kind gentleman was that without this security deposit we would not have been able to check in, and we would have been free to go elsewhere. The view from the hotel room was amazing, and the location was pretty good, however, the room was dusty and the bed was super small- if that was a kingsize bed then US must have different size guide to the UK. The towel holder fell off when the towel was removed. Overall, 2-3*

Let me start with the positive. You will get a spacious room and a spectacular view as all the rooms are on the upper floors. Plus the rates are on the modest side for New York. On the downside, the entire hotel feels like a limited service facility. No room service, no ice, no laundry, and no mini bar. If you are relying on the online photos you will be disappointed when you see the wear and tear in person. Plus the rooms are different depending on which tower and floor you get. The entire property is overdue for a refresh. Note that there is a $35 per day destination charge which you can actually recover if you visit the restaurant or coffee shop, but just make sure it's on your account when you check out. The hotel will do their best to avoid crediting you with it and your only recourse is to dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. We haven't had much luck with Hilton properties in New York and this property also failed to meet expectations. We won't be coming back.

The staff at the Millennium Hilton jerked us around from start to finish. They gave our room away, then put us in a room they knew was non-functional and made us pay to fix the problem they created. We did everything we could to make the best of a bad situation created by the Hilton staff. We booked a 2 bedroom suite for the last 2 nights of our yearly vacation. We paid a pretty high price but we wanted to have a spacious room with a great view of the city. The day before our arrival, I received an email from Hilton to check in now, get an electronic key and go straight to our room. I did and got room 3931. We arrive the next day at 3:30 PM but the app says our room isn't ready. At 4:00 PM, we check with the front desk and indeed our room wasn't ready. We checked in periodically over the next few hours and the room was still never ready. Finally around 6:30 PM, we find out that our room wasn't ready because they put someone else in our room ! However, room 4031 is available (also a 2 bdrm suite) so we take that room. The view of the city from the suite is truly incredible. The problem is that it is 90 degrees in the suite and the AC unit is in idle mode. We go down to the front desk and are told they'll send someone right up. They even suggest we go on with our plans to check out Times Square and that it will be better when we get back. It wasn't. Finally around 11:00 PM, I'm told to check with the manager the next day to see what he can do to get us a different room. However, they send a guy up with a fan who tells us the AC hasn't worked in this room for a while and that this is well known by the front desk. Turned out that of the 3 AC units in the suite, only the queen bdrm AC unit worked. That was good for my wife and I but the 2 - 17 year old boys suffered through the night in the heat. The next morning the manager is aware of our problem but the only thing he can do for us is to put us in a king bedroom with a pullout couch. When I suggest that my wife and I can stay in the suite but if the boys could have the king room, he said sure but then you have to pay for the king room separately. It doesn't matter that we have paid for a king bed in the suite that is not usable, they still charged us for the king bedroom. We paid for the room and made the best of a bad situation. We will never stay at the Millennium Hilton ever again and would not recommend anyone else stay there either.
