Could have been better!

We had a lovely week at Mia Reef but I can agree with previous reviews when they say the resort is a little tired. The staff are all wonderful, so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. But there are only really two restaurants open on site along with the buffet which covers the main three meals a day. Our room (deluxe ocean view) was pretty but lacking in hangers and wardrobe /cupboard space cramped - we had to keep our cases on the balcony. The chap who does the grill in the afternoons is amazing and the food fresh and delicious. Probably better than the restaurants. The wine however is disastrous. The choice is one red, one white - and one Cava Brut which should be dry - but it’s sweet. And the white is just barely passable. I was disappointed that such a hotel would have such a limited choice. Having said all that.. on the plus side I never had a hangover - and the beach is absolutely stunning and worth the visit. I’d come back.

Beautiful!!!

Overall we LOVED this resort! It is smaller in size, so easy to go to and from your room. In hindsight I would have upgraded our room because the bathroom was small for four people but ultimately we don’t go to hang out in the room. I also found the pillows to be a bit firm. The beach was so beautiful and shallow, very nice to pop out and take a swim or check out snorkel equipment, paddle boards and kayaks. I would recommend taking advantage on the less windy days because they won’t check out if it is too rough. We found the buffet and restaurants to be very good but our favorite was lunch at the grill station with Guadalupe. Soooooo delicious!!!!! The beach service staff was very attentive and friendly. Shoutouts to Roberto and Karl’s for their excellent service! Bartenders and servers also ALL very good! Shoutouts to Luis, Alejandro and activity director Eduard and Nubar and hamlet in the front lobby. Make sure you remember your tip money they work very hard to make your stay wonderful! Easy walk into town to shops and other beaches. I would recommend this resort and would definitely book here again.

2.5 or 3 star hotel on 5 star plot of land

Went here for my honeymoon and here is the good, bad and ugly: Good: Amazing property. Seriously on the best piece of land on the island. The location cannot be beat. Best beach and beach access. Decent food and drinks. Servers and bartenders are wonderful for the most part. Bad: Customer service at the reception/concierge is terrible. Our room was 2 hours late. It wasn’t ready till 5pm. They didn’t do anything to compensate for this. When we finally got our room, it was a really run down dingy tiny room with a view of a wall from the room. They know we were there for our honeymoon and didn’t care at all. No special treatment. When we requested an upgrade or room change, we offered to pay for it, they insisted nothing was available. I had to go online and search the availability and point it out to them and argue until they agreed to move us. The second room was much better. The ugly: There’s bird poop everywhere. All over the beach chairs, the docks, the walking paths. It is so bad that I actually got pooped on while relaxing on the beach. They have these beach beds which remain largely unused as they do not allow guests to rent them. You have to pay for their Mia Club to use them. If they simply rent them out for $40 usd per day, they’d be making a lot more money. The pool smells like sewage and is also full of birds. It is also shaded by the building so it rarely gets any sun. Again, the whole pool area is covered with bird poop. This is a 2.5 or 3 star hotel at best. So, as long as you know what room to get and avoid the pool, and be careful on the beach, you’ll be okay there.
