February 2022
Long overdue review. Trip was actually Feb 2020 well before Covid pandemic hit. I tried emailing Melia on multiple occasions after returning to Canada but never received an apology or acknowledgment. WestJet Vacations ended up giving us a $400 CAD WestJet credit because Melia wouldn’t respond to them either but it was very small based on what we had paid for and experienced. We travel every year and this was the worst vacation. I strongly discourage you to book at any Melia because if you have issues they don’t care. This is what went wrong: Food was lacking variety, no Jamaican fruits, they used mayonnaise as hollandaise sauce, no lobster in “lobster mac & cheese”, the jerk chicken was left out for hours and put on grill to reheat (really dry), food was not fresh. I wanted to leave before the end of my trip and was finding hard to find anything good to eat. I actually cried a few times because I was hungry. I don’t even have food restrictions and I love all food groups! The activity team was not entertaining the guests and we never got acknowledged by them. They played games together. The resort was not kept clean and even though it had been renovated (use to be Braco Beach which was awesome btw) The staff gave more attention to this family of 12 or so that were from NY as they were Melia members. There was also confusion when booking this trip with the “level” side. We ended up paying extra as after booking we realized that there was a “level side” now - to be able to access the level side beach and addl pool, snack bar (which was also a disappointment- the staff there ignored us and the breakfast was awful. Lunch sometime ok but not great.) We visited the same resort under different companies and there was no division.. Jerk shack only opened twice during our long 10 days there.. We raised some of our concerns while there but they just were able to meet the expectations. This resort is rated 4.5 stars but in my opinion at that time, it was a 2 stars (food 1 star) I’m still upset to this day and will never book a Melia again, they have lost my business and I keep telling my friends to choose a different resort

We were disappointed the entire trip! The food was blah, the service sucked, the bed was tough and uncomfy and when we wanted to have massages done we were turned off with just the attitude of the person who answered the phone. Don't waste your money here

We spent $2800+ in advance for a six night stay at Melia in the spring of 2020 The pandemic hit and travel to Jamaica was prohibited. Though we did purchase at a nonrefundable price point, we did not cancel the trip. The pandemic prevented travel. Then, when we attempted to book 1.5 years later, they gave us a two month window in which to reschedule at times when the kids are at school and my wife and I are working. Then, they closed the resort. Today, we received an official cancellation notice with no plan on how the resort would compensate us for the $2800+ we spent for the vacation we were prevented from having. While i understand that they were hit hard and sympathize, I can't see how the patent company has not reached out with a plan to give us a credit towards a stay at another one of their locations. We were disappointed at not being permitted to tske the trip and now we're angered by the fact that we're also out almost $3000 dollars. Don't travel to a Melia resort.
