Paradise revisited

We visited Mango Bay for the 2nd time in Dec 22 and this time we got married there. I cannot fault anything about this hotel, the beachfront location is stunning, drinks are brought to you throughout the day, they had a really good system where they place a flag on a stick by the sunbed and you popped it in the sand when you wanted service. The food in the restaurant is very good, it alternates daily between buffet service & silver service, there was always lots of choice. We opted for a pool view room and we had a partial sea view, rooms are clean and very spacious, lots of storage and hanging space. We went on the complimentary catamaran trip and enjoyed a lovely 2 hours sailing up the west coast, the staff pointed out all the local sites and we stopped for a swim. No turtles to see on this occasion but we saw lots on our 1st visit in 2019. Just outside the hotel is Limegroves which is an exclusive mall boasting many boutiques including Brietling, Cartier, Ralph Lauren to name a few, walk for a few minutes and you will find the Chattel village which has some lovely shops, there is also a supermarket and a duty free shop. If you are looking for calm seas, beautiful sunsets, exclusive shops and restaurants then the West coast is the place to be. For me Mango Bay has everything you need for an unforgettable holiday with everything you need within a short walk. Buses run regularly outside the hotel and go all over the island. The staff are helpful and friendly. Can't wait to go back. 🧡❤️🧡

Staff attitude just awful

My wife and I spent a week at Mango Bay Hotel in February 2023. I do not want to concentrate on any positives here as they are noted in other reviews, eg rooms, food etc and I agree with many of the reviews BUT My review really concerns staffing, Staff attitudes are truly appalling as also noted by Felix in his detailed and excellent review. All, apart from the odd one we’re just so rude it was unbelievable for an expensive 5 ? Star hotel. In the restaurant the waitresses would would simply stand at the side of table to take orders without saying a word, just stood there with pen and pad, this would happen at breakfast and dinner. Not so much as a “good morning” or “can I take your order”! If you tried to engage with them you are lucky to get a grunt or a forced smile. Similarly, the staff behind the bar were just as rude. As you ask for a drink they would not even give us eye contact but just stood there in front of us so you don’t know if they are serving you or have heard you, again not so much as a”hi there, what would you like?”. When putting the drinks on the bar again no eye contact or words , just put them on bar and walk away. Now and again management staff could be seen walking around, they were always very polite and cheerful and would freely engage with guests, this attitude does not brush off on other staff . On one such occasion a lady who seemed to be a manager was cheerily walking around and engaging with guests in the restaurant and so asked the waitress who she was, the waitress replied, wait for it, “ why do you want to know,” It wasn’t just my wife and I who felt the pain, friends we met at night all complained about the same. As you can imagine, this awaful rudeness and attitude from nearly all staff really took the edge of our holiday and so we asked to see a member of the management team on our last day to report our concerns. We met a lovely member of the management team who listed to us and understood perfectly what our concerns where and fully agreed there was a problem with staff attitude. She was honest and explained that it was very difficult to appoint decent staff and that since Covid all hotels on the Island were having the same problems. She agreed that some staff clearly didn’t want to put the effort in nor either did they have the skills and knowledge needed in hotel hospitality. We felt very reassured by this manager and when I asked that these issues be raised in team training sessions I was assured they would be and she promised to e mail me when this had been done. On that basis and because she was so reassuring I said I did not want to leave and negative reviews, That was 6 weeks ago and I’ve heard nothing and so here I am sharing our experience with you. This weeks holiday cost us £4000, ouch! It won’t happen again😀

Good spot for a winter break

Laid back staff, good food, bit of noise from neighbouring bars, small beach, pool . Watch out for Damian the dancing waiter. WiFi OK in public areas but weak in our room. Quite crowded in February, mainly UK visitors . Reasonable value, fresh tropical fruits not available
