Like its Sanskrit namesake, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve offers hotel guests a “temple” of their own, a sanctuary for inner exploration and tranquility. Set along the Ayung River in Bali’s cultural heart of Ubud, the hotel offers luxury, butler-attended villas and suites; vintage VW convertible tours of villages, rice fields and temples; and dining including the signature Kubu, featuring Mediterranean-European cuisine and private cocoons.

I’m writing this review in the car as we have just left the Ritz Mandapa. I don’t usually write reviews, but this hotel deserves to be written about in the most positive light. From the moment we arrived Kewin and Ade made us feel so welcome, like you are being welcomed by family, is how I describe their hospitality. This sets you up for exactly how you will be treated throughout your stay. All the staff know your name as you are walking around the reserve and nothing is too much trouble for them. The spa facilities deserve recognition as they are excellent, both my wife and I had full body treatments and I also had a private chakra balancing session. This was on another level. Our children loved the kids club (they are 10 and 7 years old), the staff there made the children part of their family there. The children would have been happy to have stayed all day if they had the choice! The restaurants were fantastic, from the casual dining next to the pool to the more formal, but still relaxed setting of Ambar (Japanese cuisine, certainly recommend the Wagyu there!). Breakfast was brilliant, a lovely spread with a lot of effort clearly put into the food options there. As for the location, just breathtaking! You are nestled in a secluded part of Ubud in the jungle. The views from our suite will remain in our memories for many years to come. The onsite rice field was delight to walk through with our children embracing fully the environment we were in. We wish we had stayed longer, our trip now takes us to Nusa Dua and the Ritz Carlton there has a lot to live up to compared to Mandapa. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel in Ubud, honestly you must stay here. It cannot be missed. Thank you 🙏🏽

Incredible breakfast and the first of the two massage artists I saw was very talented. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We had one issue- a fitful wailing baby arriving to the room with adjacent walls to our room. After enjoying this for a few hours during the afternoon, I asked for these new arrivals to be moved to a different room. Ultimately the management did help us with this and compensated us with a massage, but it took 3 to 4 hours to get the fix made after I asked which greatly disrupted the peace of our stay that day and our $300 dinner that evening while we wait to hear back about a change. I am not sure what the correct children protocol should be for hotels which offer tranquility and restoration as a key marketing feature. But I do think the issue should have been handled more quickly and without making me feel like I was the problem for not being able to tolerate the screaming.

This place is like nothing we’ve ever experienced, it feels like you’re living in a Balinese village as part of their family. Nestled by the Ayung river, surrounded by rice paddy fields deep in Ubuds jungle. Mandapa is steeped in tradition, an authentic Balinese experience with local foraged food, traditional dancing and outstanding Indonesian food. The customer service is next level, they remember your name, what you eat and go above and beyond. We just keep saying how grateful we are to be here and experience this.
