The Hotel Miguel Angel is an older grande dame type hotel near to the main centre of Madrid. the rooms were very clean and bathrooms good. Breakfast good and there were some nice touches like little treats adjacent to the lifts for guests to help themselves to. The hotel is not situated right in the middle of the city but it was not a huge walk (maybe 20 mins) to get to many of the main sights. Staff were very welcoming and pleasant and understanding of our lack of English. We stayed here as part of a tour and had negotiated an additional night at the end of the tour which exposed us to the true costs of the accommodation which was a little steep though we did not have any comparison at other hotels nearby for reference..

This hotel was chosen by a large international tour company on our 1st & 17th night. After travelling 30 hrs from Australia all I wanted was to fall into bed. The 1st room was tiny, on the 2nd floor & just got in the doorway when I realised I'd been given the 'Solo traveller' room, I complained and was given an 'upgrade' and this is it. The furniture is so old and scratched your local charity store would reject it, curtains hanging off the track, bins without liners, door frames falling apart so badly the chain lock wouldn't connect, cracked ceilings. Old world charm this isn't, it's just old. On returning on the 17th day of the tour I was given a room on the 7th floor facing the very busy main road intersection, room noise is incredible as the wind was bad and it sounded like a freight train coming through the room. After complaining, once again, I was given another room, 616, facing the garden and which ended up being a vast improvement. The Breakfast was great which is why I've given this review 1 Star, will never stay or recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our 10 day tour of Spain. This was listed as a 5-star hotel, so we expected it to be nicer than the Melia hotels we had spent several night at in Seville, Barcelona & Granada. We were disappointed in our room. It was very outdated and tired looking. No hot pot in the room to make coffee in the morning and the safe didn't work. We would not stay here again.
