In this leafy and residential street in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid, it can be quite difficult to figure out in which of the elegant townhouses a hotel is located. Search for house number 76, as that’s where you’ll find 4-star boutique Hotel JL No76. Step inside the renovated 19th-century property and enter a sophisticated design including unexpected explosions of colour and art. The warm and inviting ambiance will instantly make you feel at home.
Don’t be misled by the calm- and quietness of the street. The hotel is surrounded by Leidseplein, Museumplein, P.C. Hooftstraat and the Vondelpark and therefore ideally located in the heart of the neighbourhood Museumkwartier. In the early mornings or after a day exploring the city, the honesty bar and private courtyard garden will be your favourite places to relax. Settle down in a comfy armchair, flick through a magazine or enjoy a drink in the sunshine. Here’s where you’ll enjoy boutique at its best.

We booked this hotel through the AMEX travel portal on our recent trip to Amsterdam. From the travel portal and website, the rooms look fine. However, when we checked into the hotel (should be a hostel) we were given a room in the basement next to their maintenance room. It smelled like sewage throughout the entire floor. Our room had black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, our carpet was dirty and had stain everywhere, and the mattress was a duvet on top of couch cushions. We immediately alerted the staff and they even agreed the room was not suitable for guests. However, the staff did nothing to compensate us for having to find new accommodations. They were not able to move us to a different room or a partner hotel. Luckily, the hotel right next door was available and much nicer than JL 76. We have since requested this hotel be removed from the AMEX travel portal. Do yourself a favor and avoid this property. We are still waiting on reimbursement from AMEX and this hotel.

This was my first experience of travelling alone and I wanted a small hotel where I would feel safe and comfortable. I also wanted to be close to The Van Gogh Museum. Hotel JL No 76 ticked all the bxes for me. The staff were very friendly and willing to answer all of my questions. book tickets for events etc. The room was spacious and clean. The jacuzzi bath was a real treat. The location is good, there are trams a stones throw away and they are so easy to use. I would be very happy to stay there again with friends or solo.

Having stayed at the hotel for 3 nights on a short holiday we found the staff, the breakfasts and the location to be great. Unfortunately we were allocated the lower rooms which did not meet the expectations set by the hotel. Our room was clearly past its best with threadbare carpets, there was a loud pump noise from the boiler next door which the staff clearly knew about and disturbed us regularly. The room cleaning left a lot to be desired and the corridor to our rooms seemed to be used as storage, when we left a load of of broken chairs had been dumped there. If you have booked make sure you are given rooms upstairs which would hopefully be better. I would hesitate to use again or recommend.
