This is a strange place! There’s no doubting it is luxurious and opulent. The rooms are lovely, spacious and high spec, but the service lets it down in my experience. We stayed again a few nights ago and booked a suite, with dinner, bed and breakfast. The room was very nice but was right next to Reception, with only an open door between our bedroom door and the folks on reception who were happily chatting away all evening. Before dinner we asked if they would close the door so it wouldn’t disturb us later. They said that would be no problem, but when we came back after dinner the door remained open. I had to go out in my bathrobe after I’d gone to bed to close the door myself. Not a big deal, but why didn’t they just do it! Likewise at dinner, the service was just a bit lack lustre and at no point were we asked if we enjoyed our meal or if we needed anything else. They also don’t give you an ice bucket and take the wine away so they can top you up when they see you have run dry. I get that can be nice if the service is really attentive, but in our case it just ended up with me constantly with a dry glass, and leaving the restaurant with a half finished bottle of wine that I never saw but paid for!! The same again at Reception when we checked out; no asking if there were any issues or if we had enjoyed our stay, nothing. There had in fact been some issues with both the room and our meal (nothing too significant but I’d want to know if I was the owner of this hotel!) but they showed no sign of being interested in that. To sum up, we did in fact have a very nice time, but both my wife and myself agreed it could have been really excellent with just a few basic tweaks and a little bit of old fashioned customer service.

This hotel is a perfect blend of comfortable elegance and luxury. It is a compilation of individually owned town houses turned into a hotel. Different sections of the hotel show the style of the previous owners. The differences blend into a striking hotel with character and elegance. In the area we were housed there was a breath taking stain glass window. Our room, a suite, consisted of an enormous room with heavy red velvet drapes and a curving staircase that led to a very large bathroom. The shower, clearly designed for two people, could easily have accommodated 4 people. It was truly luxurious. Our son had a junior suite and it too was roomy, beautiful, and comfortable. Surroundings are important but, for me, what really makes a hotel worth staying at is the staff. This hotel did not disappoint in any respect, and the staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. A few important details: - The hotel is not air conditioned but they did supply us with a large Dyson fan that kept us very comfortable. - The hotel does not have a parking lot but there’s ample free parking nearby. The parking in front of the hotel is restricted during the day but not overnight. And there’s a large parking area nearby that is unrestricted as to time. - There’s a scotch library that was a dream come true for my husband and a friend traveling with us. There you can have a scotch for a few euros up to over a thousand. - I don’t know it there’s an elevator. We were on the 1st floor and our son on the 2nd floor so we didn’t need an elevator thus didn’t ask about one. - There was also a restaurant that looked good but we only had a salad there, it was delicious. - The hotel is located near several excellent restaurants and a short walk from the University of Glasgow. it was also not far from a prime shopping area. In sum I have nothing but effusive praise for this incredible hotel.
