We have been customers of MareNostrum Tenerife for years. There were plenty of positives: the location, breakfast, dinner, cleaning, animation, etc. My review now is for the travelers, who will order distilled alcohol in the bar. Be careful what you order and what you get!... ...we were negatively surprised with the games behind the bar...this was very unexpected.(

Having stayed in Tenerife many many times, I have always fancied a stay here; but unfortunately I have to say it is quite disappointing. The building itself is now very tired and the style of it is quite garish and borderline tacky with its take on a Roman theme. The huge chandeliers look impressive from a distance but they are dirty and tatty, and tatty pretty much sums up the rooms too. Whilst the hotel and the rooms are spotlessly clean the furniture in our room was chipped, scratched, stained and very tired. Even the tacky looking fibreglass-mock-plaster wall ‘art’ was lob-sided and had a hole in it. You don’t have tea and coffee making facilities in the room either which is a shame as the coffee in the dining hall is awful. I’d advise to bring your own. The ornate balconies are small and offer no privacy from your neighbours, so unless you have a sea view (ours overlooked a car park) they’re really not a nice place to sit. There is a lack of plug sockets in the rooms too, so maybe bring an extension plug if you have lots of devices to charge. Bizarrely there were more spare sockets in the bathroom than the bedroom, unless we wanted to unplug the fridge and the lamps. Incidentally there are no ceiling lights in the rooms so you do actually need those lamps to be plugged in. The pool area is also very ornate and over the top with its lamp posts, columns and statues which make sunbathing tricky as they cast shadows throughout the day. Prepare yourself to bed hop around the pool unless you want one white leg or a strange pattern on your chest. Also there are many drainage channels around the pool area with loose and damaged grates which, together with the super slippy marble pool surround and steps, means there are trip hazards everywhere. Also worth noting the weeds growing through these grates and between the paving stones make this look uncared for. The breakfast buffet is vast, there’s certainly plenty of choice, but the cooked breakfast isn’t worth bothering with at all, awful in fact. The egg station is great though and they do make very nice omelettes. There are positives though. The location is excellent and the staff are incredibly nice and professional. Everyone we came into contact with were polite, friendly and efficient. We appreciated the ‘bell hop’ staff on arrival and the welcome drink. The hotel is due to close in October ‘23 for a refit so it would be interesting to see this hotel again afterwards, as it stands it feels like they have ‘given up’ on maintaining it until then which is a shame. To sum this up, there are so many hotels to choose from in this location. If you are looking for somewhere special look elsewhere. This isn’t worth the star rating or the price tag.

An absolutely fantastic stay at the Hotel Cleopatra Palace in Tenerife. First and foremost I must praise the staff. Every single person we encountered, whether it be receptionist, wait staff, cleaners, bar staff, pool attendants, were extremely kind, friendly and attentive. They were so polite and really couldn’t do enough for you! We were greeted with cava and looked after so well. The service really was second to none. It was a pleasure to chat with them and practice my Spanish! The rooms’ furniture could do with a touch of updating, but otherwise the room was clean, spacious and well equipped. The bathroom was well maintained and towels replaced as required. The bed was huge and comfy. Small fridge was useful for drinks and came with complimentary water. Nice pool view from the balcony. The restaurant was excellent. Breakfast in particular was plentiful and varied. A huge range of delicious hot and cold foods to please everyone. Likewise, dinner was tasty and always plenty on offer. The ‘grill station’ was particularly great. Excellent chefs on hand to cook fresh food of your choosing. Perfect poached eggs and delicious range of succulent meat in the evening. An extra special treat was the exceptional pianist each morning at breakfast. Erika Szakal is incredibly talented and it was so wonderful to hear her play each day! The pool area was nice and the pool attendants too were very helpful. You could borrow pool towels and the staff were straight over if you needed help with the sunbed or parasol. Bar staff floating around too to take drinks and lunch orders. The best club sandwich I have ever had! The evening bar was good too with good service and live music each night. The location is great. A stone’s throw from the main strip and the beach. About 15/20 mins from the airport making the transfer painless too. The hotel itself is a beautiful spectacle, especially at night. Lots of great photo opportunities! Highly recommended if you are looking for a touch of luxury for your trip to Tenerife! I would love to return.
