One of the best holidays ever!

Where to begin? One of the top 5 holidays we've ever taken (and we love to travel the world). We went to Hideaway for two weeks in February '23. Just returned. Fabulous overall. From the moment we arrived, we were given more attention than we've ever had at a resort. The general manager Christophe not only met us on arrival, but he also came by the restaurant the next night to make sure we had everything we needed and expected. Each set of guests are given a 'butler' and our lovely caring Shahin was always so attentive, finding us at least once a day to make sure all was well and made himself available to book, change, reserve events, restaurants, trips, etc. We are simple people but Shahin always checked. And he was very responsive to any requests we did make. Wonderful job Shahin. The island itself is fantastic. Long, plenty of space to move around, no crowded areas at all. Tons of beach. And so well kept. A big thanks to the tons of gardeners always taking great care of the public lanes and gardens. We had a deluxe over-the-water villa with a pool. The villas are enormous. Bed was huge and wonderfully relaxing. Linens top notch. Toilet and shower permit you to be fully inclosed indoors but to see the sea while in both. Fun! Bathroom was massive. Didn't try the jacuzzi bath but it looked great. Always kept clean and tidy thanks to Afin our house person who is so discreet we never actually met. Plenty of everything in the mini-bar. Villa private pool was bigger than we thought it would be. I was able to take 7 swim strokes across the pool and loved doing some basic water exercises while being over the sea. We were in villa 227 right at the end (as requested-thanks for that). We had stingrays and one turtle and a bunch of fish out back of villa. So fun to just drop into the sea. However, do note, this is not the calm lagoon type area. It's rather wavy and sometimes even rough waves. However, it was swimmable and we went snorkeling off the deck multiple times. Deck was big, however, it needed a little more up-keeping and looked a bit aged. Would have liked an umbrella over the loungers. There is a lovely circular double chair in the shade except after 3pm. Loved riding around on the bikes. The grounds are gorgeous with flowers everywhere. Gives you a chance to get a bit of exercise. Food - we took the White Platinum Plan even though we don't drink alcohol. Worth every penny. No one wants to keep paying $300+ for each meal. Food everywhere was very good. And plentiful. We actually loved having the three-course choice at lunch and dinner, much better than buffets all the time. Some items on the menus were some of the best we'd ever eaten in the world. Thanks to all the great chefs. Samsara dinner restaurant was our favourite restaurant with so much choice that we still didn't try everything. Najima took extraordinary care of us for the 10 nights we went to Samsara! She made great recommendations (follow her lead, she really knows that menu) and was always spot on. She takes great interest of her clients and gets to really know what they like and don't like. Najima is marvelous and a very sweet, kind person who does a fabulous job. We also loved her fabulous attention at the Meeru during lunchtime. Thank you. At Samsara and Meeru, Sonai was another of the amazing service people we were lucky to be served by. Sonai regardless if he was our server, was always checking on us and going above and beyond. Sonai 's attention to people, his memory for small details, and his charming, caring, authentic approach with people proves he has a definite career in management. Adi, was just a total delight to see each morning (until sunset) at the Meeru restaurant, a smile always on his face, happy to be of service, and really good service at that. He kept us supplied with our favourite beverages without even needing to ask. We were very grateful for his inquiry into gluten-free pizza for us, which in turn the chef provided. We spent breakfast time at the Meethifaru buffet, going early to enjoy the quiet. Samaah was always very attentive, knowing just when to bring the next cup of coffee. He was a delight to talk with and we learned more about the nearby islands and the Maldivian culture. Totally enjoyable person. Thanks Samaah. Even though the food was very good everywhere, we only had one evening buffet meal at the Meethifaru, which we were not happy with, due to very disturbing children whose parents didn't care that their children were handling the raw fish with their hands and putting it back, touching the bread and fruit and putting it back, and throwing plates of food off the deck to feed the fish. The screeching, running riot, mayhem of the children and the inability or perhaps unwillingness of the staff to handle the situation was very off-putting. It is the Maldives after-all. We didn't go back there for dinner. On that note, we really enjoyed the communal areas, like the gorgeous swimming pools, outstanding beaches, absolutely amazing reef (I'll say more in a moment) but a few days were dominated by screaming children (again whose parents couldn't care less and no staff asking for more consideration for the couples sharing those pools etc.). This resort may need to figure out if it can balance honeymoon/anniversary couples and tons of families. It may well be heading towards primarily being a family resort. I had read that there were only a few kids, but I have to say it was, on many days, a few too many for our liking. We are in our 60s. As two American couples noted to us, kids are great but who wants to hear them in the Maldives. I think it's time for Hideaway to create some adults-only spaces. If Hideaway creates some adults-only spaces/sections in restaurants etc., we will return. The reef - incredible. Given the state of most reefs in the world today, we were very surprised at quality of the reef drop off, just metres from the beach, the length of the reef, and the diversity of the fish and the fact at least 50% of the coral is still alive near the top of the reef. And, let's not forget the incredible (safe) encounters with the reef sharks and friendly rays every day. Once we saw 8 eagle rays together. Amazing. We snorkeled at least twice a day. Only after 13 days were we getting a little bored. Just so much to see. We could have opted for a snorkeling trip elsewhere but we were too lazy! Beaches - absolutely beautiful. Everything you hope for in the Maldives. I would encourage perhaps placing a few lounge chairs with umbrellas elsewhere not just in front of the Meeru. We really wanted to spend some time further up the beaches but there's nowhere to find shade nor a place to sit or lay down except for bringing a towel there. And it's too hot to sit out the whole time in February. There is so much space, I think it would be better to offer a few more options other than the Meeru for those who are over-the-water. But still, the walks we took on those beaches are so memorable. Stunning experience. All in all, a fabulous place, may be one of the most beautiful islands in the Maldives, with exceptional staff attention and care. Thanks to you all for making our 20th Anniversary so glorious.

My stay in paradise (Hideaway Beach Resort, Maldives)

Spent the most amazing 8 days at Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa and have only wonderful things to say about my stay including the general beautiful aesthetic appearance of the resort, facilities, amneties and friendliness/professionalism of all staff from top to bottom and wish I could list them all by name. I knew this was a luxury resort but my experience here and how I was treated by everyone made me feel like a vip and truly made me feel like I was in paradise! I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a break from there busy lives and looking to disappear for a while to recuperate and just switch off for a while! Was sad to leave but looking forward to returning 1 day again and then spending more time at this amazing piece of paradise!
