Firstly the hotel is lovely and most of staff are great.....this is all about being made to feel like drunken yobs. We are 5 days in, and for the preceeding days we have been able to bring a bottle of the all inclusive wine to our room from either the buffet or the dome bar...one bottle is all we wanted each night just to sit on the balcony...my wife is celiac and cannot drink the beer in the mini bar. So for 5 days this has been allowed and not questioned by any member of staff who we passed each evening or indeed by the staff serving it knowing we wanted to take it back to our room....until tonight when we were made to feel like yobs by the dome bar manager for asking for ONE bottle of wine as before....we are professional people who have paid a not small amount of money to stay in this apparent 5 star Hotel....this is not 5 star service. We understand if folk are taking more than a few bottles and partying in their room.....it was even suggested that because the football was on folk could get a bottle and hit someone with it....strangely if I wanted to do that I'd take one of the 6 bottles out of the mini bar in the room and do such a thing.....we could sit in the bar all night and get hammered but we can't take ONE bottle of the included wine back for a quiet drink on the balcony....my wife is horrified and acutely embarrassed by how we were spoken to by a condescending bar manager.....I'm just totally angered by this....finally nowhere have we seen anything which says you can't take a bottle of wine to the room....what about bought wine from the supermarket or is that glass different to the glass in the bottles here! I guess this hotel thinks everyone who stays here are drunken louts out to glass the other guests....apologies for the long whinge...
Six weeks hiking in The Canaries began with 2 days at The Atlantic Sunset. I had a Privilege room, clean and modern, with a balcony facing the Hard Rock Hotel. The noise from there did not bother me. I was not All Inclusive but chose Half Board. Services and facilities included: - kettle, Nespresso machine in my room, tea and coffee replenished every day. - two bottles of water initially, one replaced every day - access to Privilege Lounge, free drinks - The View a la Carte restaurant with food that was good enough but not outstanding The location is beautiful west facing with wonderful sunsets but not much near by. A bus service goes by, or short taxi rides to great hiking nearby. My main gripe was that breakfast starts at 8 am, rather late if you're planning an all day hiking trip up in Teide National Park, a 30 min taxi ride away. They provide a light continental breakfast before that time, adequate if you have an early flight but probably not enough to fuel a day's hiking. Excellent staff. This hotel, with the Privilege facilities, provides the 5 star services I need at a very competitive price. It is also one of the nearest 5 star hotels to the southern hiking areas on Tenerife.
This was a very special trip and I cannot for a minute find fault with the hotel. The staff were attentive polite and helpful and this made no difference if it was the gate security, the meet and greet staff or the waiting staff all the way through to the cleaners and pool side attendants. Not one member of staff of which there were many did not set the very highest standards. Food was very good and always fresh. Rooms were clean and spacious and my friend who is wheelchair bound found the DDA throughout the rooms and external areas very well thought through. If there was anything I could fault it would be the Pina Colada was a bit skimpy with a bit too much ice!
