We have visited Grand Mutha Tenerife on numerous occasions over the past few years and due to visit again on March 2nd for one week self catering! Never! Have we felt it necessary to complain with regards any of the facilities on offer. We always found our room to be spacious, clean and well serviced by the maids. On one visit we were given the keys to three separate rooms from which to choose! The hotel isn't brand new, so you have to expect some issues! Treat your hosts with respect and you will be offered the same in return. Some of the comments and complaints appear somewhat unbelievable based on our previous experiences.
I wrote a review about this hotel last week but felt that I should take it off, I’ll explain! My husband and I rented an apartment in Golf del Sur, from a very nice couple who couldn’t have helped us more. The apartment was perfect but unfortunately there was a drainage problem and we had no water for 24 hours and needed a hotel to stay in. This was the hotel nearest to us and the apartment owners picked us up and took us here. They paid £145 euros for one night b and b and we were directed to our room. They requested a detailed receipt for insurance. The hotel knew this was an insurance job and possibly is why they gave us the worst room I have ever seen in my life. It was freezing cold , smelled strange and had a mop and bucket in the corner. We realised later on , that it was there for mopping the room out after a shower! We tried to go to bed but the bed was so dilapidated with no pillow to speak of and extremely uncomfortable, also very cold despite using the smelly blankets. We went back to our apartment at 1am to sleep because there was no way we could stay there. We came back in the morning for a shower and some breakfast. I can only assume that room is rarely used, it was a disabled room, because if it was there would be outrage. I did review it last week but the manager, of the hotel contacted the flat owners and asked them for my e-mail and phone number and I felt that was so unfair on them. He said in his response that that was the room the guys chose for us ….. I don’t think so ! The reason I am writing this review is because I am pretty certain the hotel wasn’t full even though they said it was, they only gave us that room because it was an emergency for one night and they felt we were not important guests. There were very few other guests around the hotel or at breakfast and the place is huge. Because they said they were full, we didn’t approach anyone to complain and anyway, it was late and no one was on reception. We are still shocked that the hotel thought it was Ok for us to actually spend the night in such a horrible room when our hosts were doing everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I wouldn’t advise anyone to stay here, it was not acceptable to be treated in this way despite the fact that our hosts paid for thee room , not us. I can’t believe there are many rooms as bad as that one in this hotel.
I’d give 0 stars if it were an option. Arriving at what claims to be a 5 star hotel, I was full of excitement for our new year break, room looked ok on initial, dump stuff in then dash out and explore… tested the pool temperature.. close to freezing point! Would be unusable! Then we were surprised by the airplanes passing over head! We had no idea this was under the flight path, the noise & fumes were horrendous! You could see the pilot it’s so low! We immediately asked if there was another hotel we could move to! Sadly they have no sister hotels on the island. Speaking to Thomas cook, they too couldn’t move us, as it was a busy time on the island. The fumes from the aircraft’s were beginning to affect our daughters asthma. We took it upon ourselves to find our own alternative accommodation. This unfortunately took us all night and we finally were able to move the next morning. We quickly packed up our belongings after an uncomfortable night we were horrified to discover how disgusting our room actually was with a set of fresh eyes in the morning!! The beds were falling apart, covered in stains, and smelt of urine. The bathroom mouldy and stained, toilet seat the wrong size for the toilet!! Nothing like the 5* we were expecting! So our move because of the airport suddenly became a move of desperation and disgust! I am horrified my children slept a night here! Thinking of it again makes my skin crawl! Admittedly the hotel agreed standard were poor! And they agreed to refund our remaining nights to us. However upon our arrival home speaking with Thomas Cook I suggested the standard of the room falls well below any expected standard and asked for some money back for our first horrid night!! This was declined by the hotel!! So we have paid full price to sleep in cesspit! Thanks! Other poor points.. no bottled water included in all inclusive! All inclusive only between certain times!! Food choices so limited. Avoid!! Do not stay here!
