Overall our stay at the Emerald Maldives resort was wonderful. As a family with teens in tow, the Emerald Maldives resort is an inclusive place and great for families as well as honeymoon couples. The spacious grounds and large lagoon made it possible for the kids to run and play and do water sports as the waters are calm on most days. The villas at the Emerald Maldives are well designed and spacious. The sea front family villas with pool have 2 large rooms, each specifically designed and furnished with parents and children in mind. We stayed at the over-water pool villa and the room was spacious and good enough to sleep 4 pax. The best part was to wake up to clear blue skies and the expanse of the seavin front of us. Dining at Emerald Maldives is a one-of-a kind experience not just in terms of food quality, but the attentive waiters (special shout out to outlet manager and Reyes from The Beach Club Grill) who make all the difference. They are willing to recommend food options and even curate items at your request (thank you Chef Pukah!). Meal times are the best! There are some add-on items like lobster or wagyu which you may choose to pay extra for. Given the high standard of cooking by the chefs, these are well worth the additional costs. My family rspecially enjoyed the Teppanyaki at the Le Asiatique restaurant. Unique to Emerald Maldives is their culture of wine and food pairing at meal times. We learnt so much about wines from the 5 Sommerliers at the resort and had such wonderful wine pairing, which made dining all the more pleasurable! A fabulous holiday and wonderful memories made. Thank you Emerald Maldives for the magic!
It can be a challenge to write a review that doesn't end up being a broad accumulation of things that have been written over and over again by other contributors. That being said, such is the breathtakingly incredible service, environment, attention to detail and memorable experience you gain from visiting this resort, we make no apologies for repetition! As all Maldivian resorts are, well, set in the Maldives, it goes without saying that the scenery around the island is incredible, so let's start with what may be a bit more useful for anyone reading this (as we had done with reviews carefully before choosing an island to book up and visit) and look at some of the other aspects of the stay. PEOPLE (Staff) 5 Stars out of 5 wouldn't come close to accurately attributing a score to each and every staff member across all corners of the island, from all job roles whether it be the maintenance staff, hospitality (food and beverage), cleaners, gardeners and those who are there at the airport to get you to the seaplane terminals and back home as you say goodbye to paradise. All of them have a very notable dedication to their job of making every guest's stay as comfortable, enjoyable and memorable as possible. They all have great pride in the majestic beauty of the islands they inhabit and are so keen to share that with you in a really genuine yet humble fashion, whether it be an eagerness for you to try their local cuisine, show you their latest yellow fin tuna catch or share stories with you about their upbringing and family life which of course differs greatly to that which we are familiar with from south east England. We'll pull out a few notable highlights here as everyone likes a specific case study to draw some more reference to the reality of an individual's experience. Then we've done our best to draw out some specific names we took note of from our 9 night stay to particularly recognise, those who we engaged with of the many more who work there. Communication Depending on where you live in the world, maybe you're not used to every single person you meet giving you a wave and a smile and saying hello to you, however busy they may be and engaged in all aspects of island life and maintenance. They do that here! The best example we can reference here is using the free mountain bike service daily to get around the island, and passing many, many staff often busily engaged with duties yet always finding time to either wave or chat to you as you pass by without fail. Whether via WhatsApp, the Emerald app on your phone, letters through your door, or in person, you'll always feel like you know you're being taken care of and gently guided through your stay on this island. Attention to Detail There are so many examples of this we're struggling to find a few highlights without descending into writing an essay, here are a few; It was my partner's birthday, and with precision timing at the exceptional Asiatique restaurant that evening the staff gathered to bring out a birthday cake, followed by us returning to the water villa (the best water villas in the world as we understand it!) to find a fully decorated bed with pieces of bamboo and flower petals to mark the occasion. The Someliers (5) are exceptional when it comes to recommending fine wines based on whatever cuisine you may be indulging in, and all are a huge asset to the whole island experience. I poured myself some water from a bottle and it was quickly noticed I had left the top off a bottle which was quickly put back on. I know it sounds trivial, but this is the attention to detail section and this is what you can expect from all staff here. Going Over and Above Again, a category that merits a lengthy essay, but here are a few examples; Our host (Areef) was available almost 24 hours a day on WhatsApp to respond to any questions you may have and he even navigated around the island to find one of our bikes that had been mistakenly taken by another guest, returning it to where we were and photographing it to show the location. My partner had caught her dress in the bike chain. Within seconds there were 3 buggies with emergency lights on and 4 staff on hand to try and resolve this. As it turned out the only way to do it was for me to get a new dress from the room and help her out of that one whilst they were there. They could then unwrap the skirt from the chain and not only did they do that but they took it away for a full cleaning and returned to the room in a dry-cleaning bag on the rail in the wardrobe. We had mentioned we would like to try some traditional Maldivian cuisine, in passing really. The following lunchtime we were treated to (at no extra cost) a range of 6-7 Maldivian and Indian dishes and sundries in the lunch buffet served to us with pride by the staff. It was enough for about 5 people and very much appreciated! The cleaner, on our last day of the holiday, filled our bath with water and rose-petals (this hadn't been requested) for us to enjoy after an afternoon in the sun and enjoying the snorkelling. Willingness to Get Feedback You'll experience a beach cocktail soiree attended by guests and many staff and management, the primary purpose of which is to give you a valuable face to face opportunity to discuss your stay with the team. You can give any feedback of any nature over a cocktail and meet other holiday-makers too. Continuous improvement, whether it be in terms of service, food, drink, any aspect of your stay, is under continuous review with a deliberate intention to maintain and improve upon an already very prominent position in world holiday resort standards. From Start to Finish Not only was the airport greeting and transit to the seaplane transfer lounge welcomed (especially after a long flight), but the lemon-scented aircon fuelled vehicle with a cold bottle of water was really appreciated. Furthermore, on the return journey, the staff didn't just carry our bags, they went right the way through the airport customs to take us to the check-in desk, waiting with us until it was certain we were definitely going to be flying before leaving us. No stone unturned from a service perspective! Our Staff Experience As we mentioned before, all of the staff are highly commendable, and good people, but here is our particular shoutout list; Cisse Sameu Yahil Madey Arif Shakti Arun Camelia Reyes Ujjwal Yadhu Areej Areef Poonam In summary, we can't think of any negatives from this magical time in the Maldives and thanks to all who made us feel so welcomed. We loved getting to know you all during our stay and look forward to returning one day. Elton & Elaine
Overall, the strengths of this resort lies in first, its service levels, particularly among the F&B staff. Infra and decor in the accommodation and common areas such as restaurants and the spa are not as luxurious, but functional and reasonably comfortable. During our stay, we were assigned an overwater villa with spoilt air-conditioning but credit to the Guest Relations Manager and Engineering Dept (including Head of Engineering Dept) for promptly troubleshooting and closing the loop with us. While not a good first impression post-arrival, the damage-control and problem-fixing was commendable. Consistent with other reviews, the house reef off the beach at Aqua (one of the restaurants) makes for a good snorkelling experience. Diverse marine life can be easily spotted. Here are noteworthy mentions of staff whom we felt helped to make our vacation experience extra memorable. Service of F&B staff - Sommeliers (Amit, Erika, Lee and Yadhu) were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly in recommending wines suited to one’s taste and the food type being served. At our final resort dinner, we were told the sommeliers arrived at a decision on a good wine to recommend us after learning about our wine preferences over time. The Teppanyaki chef codenamed, “Jackie Chan”, cooked up a tasty teppanyaki meal accompanied by theatrics (singing as well as fancy juggling of utensils and serving of food). Also, Head of F&B regularly made his rounds to meet and engage guests. Amjhed, Sakhti, Reyes and Pukar - for consistently engaging us during meals at different F&B outlets in the resort throughout our 7 day stay. Each engagement was done in a friendly yet brief way which conveyed a welcoming vibe while not coming across as being intrusive of our personal space and time. They also gave ideas on off-the-menu items, which helped to break the monotony of food options for a longer stay. They are also able to anticipate our preferences soon after learning abt our preferences. Nitin whom we met on our last night at dinner was a F&B staff who is knowledgeable of the food on the menu and was able to make guests feel right at home with his conversations which exuded charm and confidence. Housekeeping quality - Yosi who made up our room took pride in his work. The cleanliness of the room and availability of room amenities including the restocking of the mini bar were seen to with consistent quality. Everyday, he would ask us if we had any requests he could help us with. He got the job done well on a daily basis we were there. Villa Host - We appreciate Reehan for being responsive and friendly in spite of serving another eight or so sets of guests as Villa Host. An enjoyable family holiday overall, made possible in large part by outstanding service by resort staff.
