This was our first visit to Dubai and it’s fair to say the hotel market is overwhelming and it was quite hard to choose where to stay. Ultimately we decided we wanted to be near the beach and the DoubleTree stood out. It turned out to be the best hotel we have ever stayed at in memory and has set the standard high for future hotels. Firstly thank you to Nyasha the front desk supervisor who helped arranged a birthday welcome in our room. Our trip was to mainly celebrate recent birthdays and that was a lovely welcome. On the subject of staff, every member of staff we encountered were warm and friendly. Especially all of the security team who I know are working 72 hour weeks - yet are always smiling and welcoming you back whenever you leave and come back. We arrived in the early hours of the morning after a midnight landing from the UK and was greeted warmly by a car valet and bellboy who helped us unpack our car. Valet parkin is included with the room rate here and was handy for us since we hired a car. We were checked in smoothly and even tho it was around 2am we still got our lovely warm cookies. It was at this point we were informed about the small print of our booking that even tho’ we were a party of 4 and booked under the headline ‘breakfast included’ and we paid for a room rate not per person to stay; breakfast was only included for 2 of our party and they wanted another £240 for all of us to have breakfast. We arrived to our room and was instantly wowed. We had a two bedroom suite city view (was more Marina side and the industrial sector) and it was very spacious, well appointed, very comfortable and to a high standard. It had 3 toilets (2 bath rooms) floor to ceiling windows, a small balcony, mini fridge and a living space bigger than our own living room back home! The only thing that was surprising is the hot water in the room only lasted for one person to have a hot shower. There was a maid service every day. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of hot and cold choices in a lovely setting; especially the outside seating. The facilities here, especially the pool and beach area was beautiful. The pool was huge, easily 30metres in length and was heated. It’s open 9am to 9pm and is overseen by lifeguards who did allow pool games with balls. There was also a separate warmer splash pool ideal for children. There’s a pool bar and music with lots of sun beds and attentive pool side staff. At this time of year the DoubleTree’s outside area was in the shade (and quite cold) most of the day due to being in the shadow (literally) of the massive The Address Hotel next door. The Address’ shape also creates a bit of a wind tunnel. The location was excellent. JBR is a lovely beach area with lots of shops and places to eat. With our hire car we had no issues getting out and about to places like the Palm, Malls & the Burj area etc. Raods are good and parking was free at every place we visited. In summary, even though we went over the usual budget we would normally have for a hotel stay, the DoubleTree was a great choice and served as a great introduction to Dubai.
