Worth staying in a Riad and not in a chain hotel as it is a unique experience. The rooms have air conditioning, wifi and refrigerators which was very convenient. This Riad is in the north end of the Medina – about a 15-20 mins walk to the main mosque and taxi’s are available (lots of the Riad’s are not accessible by car so this is a nice feature). Has a lovely pool in the courtyard and a rooftop deck where you can relax in the sun. They also have a spa and private Hammam if you are interested in that. Would highly recommend you accept their offer to arrange pick up from the airport. Staff were very helpful and friendly and able to arrange taxis as needed. Breakfast is included and is served poolside. It follows the same formula each day with croissant, muffins, cakes, pancakes, with a boiled egg, fruit and yogurt. Fruit and pastries change daily, and the poolside setting is lovely. We had dinner there one night which was nice not to have to go out on our first night – the Tagine’s were very nice and we were able to find a nice wine.
To be clear, I have not stayed at this riad but wanted to leave my review as I was booked to stay until the owner decided to cancel my booking before I was due to arrive to con more money out of me. I received a notification from airbnb that my booking had changed and when I had a look the price had increased. I was asked to accept or decline with no explanation. I contacted the riad to see what it was about and they claimed that they accidentally undercharged me. This is for a booking I made months earlier. They told me to look online and i would see how much i had been undercharged but when i did, the next available nights a few days later were actually advertised for less then I originally paid. They said i could pay the extra or cancel the booking. I contacted airbnb for advice. They could get no response from the owners and offered to help me find new accommodation. I eventually declined the offer for me to pay extra and left it at that. The owner contacted me to tell me to cancel my booking. I refused and told them if they did not want to honour my booking they would have to be the ones to cancel and get the bad rating from airbnb. Once I told them this they back tracked and said I could come. By this stage I had read further online reviews, a couple of which suggested that customers had been threatened with police if they did not pay extra on departure. I felt concerned that this was a place that would stop at nothing to get extra money and feeling unsafe about my booking I went ahead and cancelled anyway. I would recommend that you think carefully about staying here. I think the riad looks very beautiful but believe the owners to be extremely dishonest. I would give zero stars if this were an option.
Our agency had somehow mislaid or booking, Zoe, the owner, still welcomed us despite it not being very convenient for her (fully booked for wedding) and allowed us to stay a few nights until the agency sorted it out. The place is charming and take beautifully designed with an artistic flair. Zoe was very helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble despite us being in her debt! Highly recommended.
