Like many other people we were loved here from a partner hotel, the Manhattan, due to a mains water break and subsequent flooding. The initial drag of suitcases through Times Square dampened the sprits of our arrival in NY but the friendly staff at the crowne plaza soon started to lighten the mood. We were a little concerned initially as they said we had 2 rooms booked but soon sorted that out. A deposit of $300 was asked for, and given. Something I think might be standard in American hotels. The room itself was very basic, 2 double beds, a desk, mirror and bathroom. It was however very clean, apart from behind the tv unit which you could see hadn’t been touched for months if not years with the dust and even an old remote control for the TV. The view however from our 26th floor room looking northwards was outstanding. The room was cleaned daily to a more than acceptable standard and the beds were comfortable although not as wide as we are used to for two of us and shared a bedside unit rather than having one either side. There were no facilities within the room, no iron, fridge or tea/coffee making etc - things we would expect to be standard in this kind of hotel. The location was also amazing. Step out of the doors and you are in Times Square. You can’t beat that. Within a day the bus touts knew us and would not bother us but simply smile or say hello. The secret is the initial interaction and then actually speak to them. Not making eye contact does lot work with these people who are hustling hard to make a living. Overall we had a nice stay in the crowne plaza. Only one start dropped due to the lack of facilities in the room The big thing for us however was in checkout when we were asked for a $40 dollar per day service fee which we had not been told about by our travel company or the hotel on arrival. An extra $200 we had not budgeted for put a slight dampener on our leaving. We left as we arrived with a slight damp squib holding us back. It was a bit of a shame.

I was seriously going to give this hotel a terrible review after 3 days of issues but after I finally spoke to only 1 individual from start to finish, I'm changing to Average. It all started with the hotel I booked & stayed in multiple times, had maintenance issues, my service charges were to be waived and that was that but it turned into a very unprofessional altercation between 2 separate individuals. After that was resolved nicely they let me get into my room, which had no safe (as promised) and "couldn't bring me one..", so I had to move 1 door down, smelled a little musty, old dirty past guest washcloth in shower. Ice machine NEVER worked after asking to get fixed or "bring me ice", I was told I could go to other floors to get ice, calls I made dropped multiple times, some old man came up but stood in hallway acting afraid to come in, didn't do ANYTHING accept to blow me off spoke to Mike (2nd in charge)whereby I felt like I was talking to the wall, very cold, distant flat affect, no business (in my opinion) being in the hospitality field. Only after I spoke to his boss Natalie did I then FINALLY feel someone cared about me as a customer. Other than this nightmare, hotel is 1 block from Times Square, rooms spacious but pillows too firm for my liking. Would I stay again? Probably not.
