My husband and I had a fabulous stay celebrating our 32nd anniversary and my birthday. The resort is beautiful, all staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Our overwater villa was amazing. And the ability to ride buggies or take the dhoni boat between islands was so helpful and fun. We tried almost all of the restaurants and the food was delicious. UFAA made my birthday so special with a table right beside the water and a delicious decadent cake. And our housekeeper Mohamed made beautiful decorations for our bed for our anniversary and my birthday. Hussain our personal assistant was extremely helpful and friendly. We would love to come back to this beautiful resort at some point in the future! A couple of areas of constructive feedback: It would be helpful if something less slippery could be put on the bottom 3 steps going into the water from the overwater villa as they are very slippery and you need to be careful going down; for us elderly couples a hand railing alongside of the plunge pool would be really helpful because it is a big step down into the pool, especially for elderly or folks with knee or hip issues; a more diverse and extensive menu for indining room service would be nice. It overall we were extremely happy with our trip and felt blessed to be able to vacation there from our home in the US.

Ever since I first set foot into a Conrad hotel, I was fascinated by the elegant, modern interior design and in love with the exceptional service. This is why I had certain expectations when I arrived at one of the most famous hotels belonging to the Conrad brand. This review is based on the hotel, the employees and the island only. Guests are picked up at the airport and a private shuttle takes you to the Conrad lounge in the seaplane terminal. Check-in formalities are done right here and some snacks and beverages are offered. The members of staff were even elevating my expectations by praising the Conrad in comparision to the Hilton Amingiri where I had stayed previously. "The Conrad is on another level". Transfer to the hotel is well organized and went smoothly. Upon arrival at the Conrad Rangali, I was greeted by friendly personal hostess, Svea, who was the main contact person during the stay. Room: I had booked a beach villa which was located on the main island for 5 nights. Welcome amenities were very generous and much appreciated. However, there were some issues with the room. The interior design was completely off, something I would have expected from the 90s and certainly not related to any Conrad hotel I have been to before. Unfortunately, there were cracks and botched paint streaks on every single wall, tooth paste on the sink and mirror, and mould in the bathroom and round the outdoor shower. I informed the hostess about these issues to see what can be done about it. Despite housekeeping was promised to clean the bathroom in the evening, I eventually had to clean it myself! What a bummer, especially after having stayed at the Hilton Amingiri eight nights beforehand. The hostess, Svea, did a great job in arranging another room on the second island. I was able to move into it in the evening on the second day. This time it was an overwater sunset villa, recently refurbished and except a small crack on one of the bathroom sinks absolutely in order and meticulously clean. Service: The first breakfast turned out to be an absolute disaster. Children, noise, not really relaxing atmosphere at the one restaurant on the main island - Atoll Market. Service was virtually non-existent and I was glad I received a cup of coffee after waiting a long time and asking twice. Oh well, there is another restaurant available on the other island (Vilu). Just had a coffee and three bites of sushi and headed to the other island. Turns out it's not possible to have breakfast at both on the same day. Understood, not ideal, however fair enough. So back to restaurant No. 1, but got denied entry because I was there already 15 or 20 minutes ago. This was frustrating, I tried to explain this to Svea and went to the beach villa to have some snacks I brought with me on the plane and went to the beach. Through the Hilton app I saw later in the afternoon that Svea had contacted me some time later to arrange breakfast at Vilu for that day. Shows that the hotel tried to offer a solution here, too. While service and staff at Atoll Market was poor, it was the complete opposite at Vilu. I would like to stress that Latheef was the only employee who introduced himself properly, engaged in conversation about guests needs and wishes and always remembered preferences the next days - all of this without being pushing. He had a competent, reassuring demeanour. This was exactly the kind of service I knew from Conrad hotels around the world. Unfortunately, his team, although being very sweet and friendly, were not on his level by far. It seemed they were newly hired and/or still trainees, so they were not as attentative and foresightful as they should have been. In general, I felt more a nuisance/supplicant than a welcomed guest here. Yes, asking twice or three time for a cup of coffee or a glass of water and still being ignored or looked down on makes me feel this way. Most of the employees faced me with a condescending / patronising behaviour. Everything I did do or not do was wrong. This is certainly not an impression I would like to get on my holidays. In terms of overall service and staff friendliness, the Hilton Amingiri and Conrad Rangali are worlds apart. I must say I was quite disappointed as this hotel is neither on a par with the world-wide Conrad standard nor the Hilton sister hotel in the Maldives. Talking to some employees I have learned that the hotel was sold in 2019 to an investment company and shortly thereafter many experienced employees left to other resorts and general management was replaced. And rumour has it the hotel may be reflagged under another brand soon. Atmosphere: Bustling. The hotel is big and you will notice it. It is busy, you see and hear the other guests. More than half the guests are families. The main island does not feel private nor exclusive, the adult island is somewhat better in that regard. There is always something going on. If you like it, that is great. If you are looking for relaxation and calm holidays, then this hotel may not be ideal for you. Beach: This is were I was shocked. Of course, there are picturesque sections of beaches on the main island. But there are other parts, where sun chairs are facing bushes, some sort of floating maintance hut and even a pipe that goes into the ocean. Some sections look really messy wth sandbags and plastic nets all over in between concrete piers. At first I thought that there is some sort of necessary construction going on, until I saw guests coming out of these beach villas and quickly moving to either side to secure themselves sun chairs in nicer locations. I remember smirking employees of the Conrad who made derogatory comments about the Hilton Amingiri being so artificial - but at least it did not look like this. The section around the iconic palm tree and the main pool is well looked after and this is where most people headed to during the day. The beach on the second, adults only island, is in a much better condition. Breakfast: Plenty of tasty options and dishes in buffet style at Atoll Market and excellent dishes freshly prepared at the a la carte restaurant, Vilu. Atmosphere is much more relaxed at Vilu, so I can recommend this location for breakfast. Summary: If you are looking for a fun, bustling resort with phenomenal marine life, maybe have the underwater restaurant on your buckt list, but do not appreciate aesthetic design then the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island could be right for you. However, for peaceful, relaxed holidays with beautiful, modern design and most attentative, foresightful and heart-warming service, there are far better options in the Maldives. Within the Hilton group this would be the Amingiri for instance. For me personally the Conrad Rangali is the wrong hotel in the right location as the surrounding marine life is outstanding (mata rays, bioluminescent plankton,...) Thank you once again, Svea, Latheef and Aye. Without your commitment and dedication I would have aborted the stay.
