Minutes after checking in the resorts mechanical exit gate failed and fell into the incoming lane smashing our windshield as we waited in line to enter. Luckily an employee saw it happen so there was no dispute over how the damage was caused. However after leaving my info in an incident report I was not contacted by the resort. After returning to the checkin office I was told to make a claim on my own insurance or pay out of pocket and send in the bill for reimbursement. I came for a relaxing weekend with my wife and left with a vehicle that is not safe to drive and repairs to pay out of my pocket. To top it off the resort charged a parking fee of 50$ but had no available parking. We were forces to park in a lot designated for a “resort facilities” building that was well over 1/4 mile from the entrance to our tower. I know this was probably a rare occurrence for the resort staff (the property damage) but the management did not lift a finger to proactively take care of me as a customer. Save yourself the hassle and book with the Marriot Castle.
We had the best time at the Caribe hotel & would definitely recommend. We are a family of 2 adults, 2 kids from the UK. We stayed here to visit Disney World. There is nothing Disney about this hotel but we knew that when we booked, however it does have a free Disney shuttle bus & gift shop full of Disney things. I’ve listed below my thoughts for each area:- Hotel - the hotel was impressive and very clean! It does seem to mainly be conference people during the week. We did feel a bit out of place walking around in our Mickey ears whilst everyone else were in suits but we carried on with our day without much care. More families arrived at weekends which was nice. Be aware, we booked with TUI which stated a deposit may be taken. Upon reading another review on here we found out it was $1000 which greatly concerned us as we had budgeted our spending money. TUI couldn’t do anything but my husband phoned the hotel direct and they understood our concerns (we were due there in 2wks) so they reduced it to $500 for us, which was much appreciated. Hotel Room - Spacious, modern & clean rooms. Our beds were comfortable & were made up each day, towels changed & bins emptied daily. It was a quiet room which looked down onto a carpark but had lovely scenery further on. We were happy with that. We passed lots of the conference people round the bar/pool at night & they were quite loud at times so not sure if they would have been heard by the closest rooms. Swimming pool - Stunning!! It was a beautiful pool with a waterfall & slide, which we all enjoyed. Great shallow & deep areas. Sun beds were good. The pool staff were my favourite. They were so lovely & attentive, always making sure we had enough dry, fresh towels. They even made pillows using the towels for us. Steven in particular made us feel very at home & called my kids little princesses (which they loved). He had a smile on his face whenever we saw him & made an effort to talk to us. I think he said he’s worked there 27yrs, he’s a credit to the hotel! Pool bar - Lovely, relaxing area. Staff again very lovely. Food was nice but it was VERY expensive and not worth the high prices in my opinion. We only ate there twice in 2wks for that reason, which was a shame. We could always get fresh ice water from there which we made the most of on our pool days. Disney shuttle bus - The bus was more of a coach which was comfortable with seat belts. The collect/pick-up times weren’t always convenient for us but we did use the shuttle many times & appreciated it with the air con. On the journeys back there would sometimes be a childrens film on the tv’s which was great. One of the drivers seemed grumpy & never smiled but i could ignore that. We sometimes got Ubers back, they were about $13-$15 but it was a quick journey so worth it sometimes. Costs went up during bad weather or Disney closing times. A couple of times it was $30+ so we just jumped on a Disney bus to another Disney hotel & got our Uber from there which saved money. Cafe & gift shop - We enjoyed the cafe food. I loved the pastries in the morning & the Paninis for lunch. My kids LOVED the gift shop! They talked to a lady in there quite often as we waited for our shuttle/Uber & she was always so lovely with them. There was a lot of stuff in there that the kids loved, we got pool rings, swim goggles & sunglasses, all reasonably priced. Overall i would definitely recommend this pool for a relaxing stay away from the hustle & bustle of Disney but not too far away from Disney either.
