Alila Ubud is a lovely property which meets expectations one would like on a vacation from a Hyatt property, staff is very friendly, property is very clean & the service is satisfactorily good. I would be happy to recommend this property to anyone visiting Ubud.
The Alila staff were exceptionally friendly and responsive to our every ask. They addressed us by our names and asked about our day and our plans with genuine interest. Restaurant staff also remembered how we liked our breakfast and spent time talking with us each morning. It felt more like visiting friends than a large hotel.
The word alila means surprise in sanskrit but there is so much more than just alila at this hotel. We began our journey in the spiritual heartland of bali; Ubud. We were greeted by long winding roads, paddy fields, ornate temples and throngs of worshipers; life bustling at every nook and corner . The drive was reminiscent of our previous journey to Alila diwa in Goa, India. Which came as little surprise as the balinese spirit is closely knit with hinduism in india. Whisked away to a separate check in area away from the lobby where we were welcomed by a refreshing cold towel and some jamu iced tea (jamu is a local fruit that is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties and provides much needed energy to the body) We checked into our terrace tree villa which was located right next the resorts’ entrance but was far away from all the other rooms thus giving us all the privacy we would need. Perched over a valley, our abode for the next few days offered us a view of nothing but trees and then some more. I felt like i was stuck in the Calvin Harris/ Frank Ocean Slide music video! Forest vibes!!! With the track now looping in my head we made our way to the pool and were completely blown away by the view that greeted us. Voted as one of the top 50 pools in the world by virtually every travel magazine; this pool overlooking the valley left us dumbfounded, mesmerized and speechless for the rest our journey. No dispute here as this became our hang out spot over the next few days. Alila ubud has an unique setup for its breakfast; let me explain; an entire menu is created daily using only the freshest local ingredients to provide its guests with a completely new breakfast experience everyday. So no two days would you encounter the same dishes with the exception of eggs, done just the way you want them. Their coffee however left us a tad disappointed with the espresso religiously being burnt or missing the crema but there was a plethora of healthy juices to lift your soul the natural way. Virtually everyone will tell you to visit the monkey forest whilst staying in ubud but if you go by my word; just book a tree villa and you will be greeted every morning by a troop of monkeys just casually and curiously sitting outside on the verandah; waiting and searching for that next piece of fruit or last nights room service order. If lady luck does not work in their favor at that moment rest assured they will be back at tea time (an alila concept) near the pool area to investigate what delightful sweets await for their heist-ing. Now, the one thing that i forgot to mention is the Alila line of bath/body products. Let me try and sell this to you. No parabens, No SLS and No harmful chemicals. Still not convinced? They’re all complimentary and stocked up in your bathroom and if you want to take some home; just visit their Spa shop which stocks all their bath/body products and a few more to go. A special mention to their citronella insecticide. Goodbye DEET. You wont be missed! Speaking of Spa’s; we got a 90 min couples massage with an all natural lemongrass oil. Our therapists were kind enough to check on us during the massage but not intrusive enough to let us doze away to the sounds of a nearby stream. Overall Alila ubud is a boutique experience par none. The friendly and helpful staff never put a foot wrong and are always at hand to ensure your every need is met. Sure there is the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton offering more rooms into the Ubud market; but Alila has been quietly setting the standard for Jungle vibes for the past decade. So if you do want a holiday full of Alila; go stay with them.
